Funny thing about cars - if you drive through water, even very deep water, and then park it in a dry place and remove water from the interior (if any gets in), the car is usually just fine. But if it sits in water - even for a few hours - you will suffer electrical problems for fuck ever.

When I was in high school, I picked up a 300ZX turbo cheap because it had been flooded out.
It was mechanically sound, and the interior had been saved, so I just had to rewire it.
Made a great hobby between tenth and eleventh grades.

Anyway, hoping for the best as this thing begins to threaten GA and the Carolinas, and I sure hope it doe not whip back like they say it might. A lashing like that is bad enough once.

If you're thinking of donating to Haitian disaster relief, your first instinct might be to throw money at the Red Cross. But their record in Haiti after the 2010 quake is the opposite of good; I'm trying to find a reliable source but my Twitter feed is saying that Haitians have specifically asked that people not donate to the Red Cross.

Generally, nodody knows where the money is going. That's the story of this country. It's the greatest money pit of the western hemisphere for most of the NGOs. Nothing really changed since 2010, no emergency plan, no real building code, no sustainable growth, etc. A lot of people still living in UN tents and any haitian citizen with a diploma or a profession wants to get the hell out of there. In case you haven't noticed but it's completely legal in most of the US to protect your property with lethal force if necessary. The military is not allowed to interfere with civilian affairs.
