Does it really matter if the story is true or not? Bottom line is these people are rioting. They are using violence towards things and people. Why does anyone think this is remotely acceptable? Why is this tolerated? The moment these people turned to violence of any kind they immediately lost any and all claims to being the just ones. It's that simple. Right now they are just criminals and vandals and should be treated as such.

So, if someone links a new story saying you are a pedophile who kidnaps kids to make child porn , should we just not care that isn't true and punish you?

As I said, from a legal standpoint the situation is not in question. Thus was murder. Murder is murder. So throw the murder book at her. Motivations and morality aside you can't just kill people like that. But I am talking about morality here. And in this case the morality of the case becomes a lot less clear cut when these activities are thrown in.

Simply put, the overarching theme of all recent protests in your country is that the police are this overly zealous oppressive force of evil and how this murder was just something that was inevitable because they are this way. Like basically that your police is something between the KKK and Gestapo. And that they get off on harassing and killing perfectly innocent people. And that sounds horrendous. But than you look at the way these people behave and their narrative falls apart. And it does so because they are not innocent perfect people. They are this evil looting rioting gang.

So when you look at a police officer being paranoid you have to wonder. Is he really paranoid? Or is he just cautious because he is used to having to interact with such a community and having to look over his shoulder all the time?
When you look at him harassing them you have to wonder. Is he really just being mean or is he just used to that actually being an appropriate thing to do given their behavior?

A lot of the behaviors that seem extreme to us suddenly start making sense if you simply assume that these officers on the ground are conditioned into said behavior through experience.


Now don't get me wrong. That does not excuse anyone of anything. Not morally and certainly not before the law. But it does beg the question. Do these people have any right to demand change if they are part of the problem? Are the police really evil or are the people the ones turning them bad?

Which is why I feel cops should be trained to deescalate and observe the situation better, and ones that are jumpy and panicky would be put in desk jobs.

This thread needs to seperate legitimate protest from mob riot behavior.

They can both exist at the same time, but they're mutually exclusive.

The moral judgments people make about then might be mutually exclusive, but plenty of large peaceful protests feature looting or other violent behavior by individuals. At the same time, largely violent protests might have small nonviolent sections within them.
