And what do you mean, self righteous? Isn't the whole point of patriotism supposed to be a holier-than-thou attitude? "At least I support my country!"

It would be hard than to force someone to be Patriotic. Either you can recognize what your country did for you and find pride in it's history and culture or you can't and just choose to leech-off of it.

Also, just love how you're going to try to pull this off just after having tried to support how superior you were to the pleb because you were unpatriotic.

What?

The very basis of the E.U is capitalism and the E.U was an economic union with it's fouding members being all western european countries but now they're just trying turn Europe into a big Sweden-like federation

Generally, when I see patriots, it's more of the people who believe Kaepernic should be punished for not standing for the anthem. I would guess that you don't believe in this sort of patriot?

If I did try and show superiority, I didn't mean it that way. I couldn't care less if everyone was patriotic, and if I sounded like I was somehow "Superior" to you, I'm sorry.
"Corrupted by wealth and power, your government is like a restaurant with only one dish. They've got a set of Republican waiters on one side and a set of Democratic waiters on the other side. But no matter which set of waiters brings you the dish, the legislative grub is all prepared in the same Wall Street kitchen."

I don't particularly care if people are or aren't Patriots as long as they don't spite on the hand that feed them. In the case of Kaepernic, he did exactly that and I thus indeed believe that he should get punished for it as "contempt for the national symbols" is considered as a crime here in France.

And no problem. As I said, I dislike people who go out of their way to try to insult their nation but I also can't stand people who can't stop from making a show of how patriotic they are for no reason. I think that Patriotism, much like Religion, is a thing that is and should stay personal apart from special occasions.

I'm glad that we agree for the most part.

Holy Shit, that's gold. Especially since the EU is a bunch of neoliberal shills to lefties.

Yes, the accusation that the EU is some sort of communist super-state is laughable. I mean I'm a soft Euroskeptic too, but I like the European Court of Human Rights and Schengen...I just want to see an environmentally and worker-focused EU (which is not what we currently have).

You are most intelligent out of all of the posters here (most are regressive leftists). Without a common language and culture people cannot have any meaningful relationship with each other. The EU is a leftist internationalist communist fantasy which can only be defended with the fallacy of ad hominem hyperbole.

You have relationships with people not people-as-state-composed-entities. I mean, I'm an American, but I'd never identify that as a primary identity, and that harms neither me or the nation.

What's wrong with Sweden? It's a lovely place.

And if what your saying is correct, what's wrong with that idea?
