I thought the Constitution was the law of the land, and not even fear and prejudice could go over it.

Oh please, quit complicating this with irrelevant shit like the law.

Because of exaggerated terrorist attacks, why should we ditch our values for fear then?Eol Sha wrote:Erm...what?
Meaning that what I said about fear and prejudice could lead us to abandon our values, and the Constitution upholds them.

Fear and prejudice can "go over it" if you get enough of the state legislatures to pass fear-based amendments to the Constitution. The 18th Amendment is a pretty good example. Fear, with a healthy dose of xenophobia and Catholic panic, was the driving force behind the banning of the sale, production, transportation, and consumption of alcohol.

Yet Prohibition failed, and the 21st Amendment repealed that. If something similar along the lines happened today, it would be an attack on what we stand for. Worse, it would be added onto the Constitution.

Have the multiple attacks actually been linked? Do we know much about the alleged culprits? I know ISIS took credit for the mall knife attack (then again, ISIS would retroactively take credit for 9/11 if they could get away with it).
