Effectively, they are.

This is again the fault of racists, though.

While Bismarck was leading the Prussian people to victory against the French and creating a unified German nation, Nietzsche was muttering away about the hated masses who he was naturally superior to. While Stirner wrote about how important his ego was, Napoleon the III was taking power in France and restoring it to it's rightful place as an empire. Though Ayn Rand spewed her venom against the Soviet Union and wrote about selfish capitalist supermen, it's party members were creating one of the most powerful states in existence.

Egoists tend to have a poor accomplishment rate compared to the rest of us "herd animals."

Yet the egoists are still more famous than most of the Prussian soldiers Bismarck led to victory or the Soviets who later got sent to the gulags as Stalin viewed them as a threat to his power. It's kind of ironic how they don't go as far yet are far more remembered than the mere followers of the leaders.

Perhaps I have other interests, ones that are more self-fulfilling than submitting my will to an ideal and taking political power.

Stirner didn't see his ego as important in some objective sense, and never used the term "herd animals". Also, you fail to mention Novatore, who riddled a bunch of fascists with bullets throughout his life and lived by looting the bourgeoisie. Seems you picked out a few examples of egoists who didn't do anything you think is dramatic enough to be egoistic...

Stirner, Rand, and Nietzsche are hardly remembered outside intellectual circles. The Prussian soldiers might not be remembered by name, but they created one of the most powerful nation-states in the world, and people remember their collective effort in awe. Modern Russians are only alive today because Stalin and the Soviet troops defeated the Germans before they could slaughter and deport Russian women and children over the Urals.

You have been made a moderator of /r/Daikouto.

Leaving the Reddit joke about /r/Pyongyang aside, Fame is by definition a limited quantity. It's based on occupying a slice of time in people's minds, and people only have so much time in a day to think about each other. If ever Prussian soldier became an Egoist philosopher, would they truly be that much better remembered? For the bulk, the answer is likely no.

Stirner obviously. He's an obscure Hegelian meme. Rand is pretty limited, too, although I wouldn't call /r/anarcho-capitalism an intellectual circle.

Nietzsche is the exception here, though. You're downplaying how influential he was.

Agreed.

This doesn't refute anything Stirner, Rand or Nietzsche said, though. Perhaps its just that you're incapable of actually engaging their ideas and are attacking their character? Or are you projecting your subjective ideas about what is and isn't egoistic onto reality, and thus concluding they aren't significant because they don't fit your conception?

He isn't described as such usually, but those who take him most seriously are usually egoists, like Novatore.

However, unlike Stirner or Rand, his influence is not mostly limited to egoism.

As a socialist, why shouldn't I despise a man who attacked one of the few alleviating benefits to the poor at the time, in the name of an old reactionary aristocracy?
