Its pretty cancerous. I wonder if anybody has calculated the economic costs of highway delays.

If you know what you're doing, you can avoid most major traffic delays. Tourists and others new to the city often don't know what they're doing.

The answer to your question is yes.

Are they doing any work to improve the highways or try to ease traffic flow?

The smog's decreased considerably, and the grit and swag are only issues in certain neighborhoods. On the other hand, I can, without leaving my couch, order food from about a hundred different countries to be delivered right to my door. From Chinese New Year to Pride to the City Hall tree lighting, there's always some sort of festival going on, if you're into that sort of thing. You can see films, view artwork, and hear music from around the world. If you like people watching, Venice Beach and Hollywood are unparalleled. They've found that the problem with improving the highways is that regardless of how many new lanes are built, it doesn't actually seem to decrease the time at all. They've started looking more into mass transit. The train system is going through a major expansion, with an actual subway to the sea being built (It'll stop about two blocks from me).

K. Is it true that in rural Australia there are giant barely-paved roads with literally nothing? That there are towns where you SHOULD NOT STOP NO MATTER WHAT if you're driving through them? That there are villages of incest families (one of them was found near Sydney 3 years ago so I'm wondering if there are others)? That aboriginal people sniff petrol and sleep on roads?

And I find Queensland buses fine. I haven't had problems using them to get to university since I started.

I hope your train system turns out better managed than ours. It is an interesting concept. Is it just subways and lightrail? I know you guys are supposed to get a high speed train too soon enough.

Our train system is reasonably well-managed. It's just subways and light-rail. I have no idea if the high speed train will ever get going. It's a dream of the Governor's, but he hasn't fully convinced all of the necessary people.
