If you lie to me and I found about it later then you can literally fuck off to Mars.

Truth is always absolute. Even if it hurts I will always tell the truth because that's how I was raised.

So if a six year-old girl asks you if she's ugly, and you believe she is, you'll happily make her cry? Or if a person with a brain tumor asks you if you think they'll make it, you'll tell them that they'll probably be dead before Christmas?

Stay classy.

It's bad enough applying for passports and licenses where they through the whole 'it is a criminal offence to give false information, yadayada level 4 fine of 25,000' routine. Yet alone the possibility that it is illegal to never ever tell the truth.

In that case, be prepared to tell your wife that she's fat, or that your child can't perform music for shit.

White lies are not always a bad thing.

The first I'd lie (and also lecture about beauty not being the most important thing in the world to judge people on). The second I won't. It's a tough one, but if I have to be the person giving them the answer, I'd rather tell them how it really is.

tbh, if a person has a brain tumor, or any other super serious disease, they're likely the cynical one thinking they won't last long (because they had to sit through all the operations and pain and shit), while the people around him or her are more optimistic. Or everyone is cynical.

If I ever were in such a situation, though, I'd ask the doctor and not a random relative.

If you were to look at the entirety of human history, creationist or evolutionist, Religious, Atheist, agnostic, it doesn't matter. Human society would not have grown to be so advanced without lies, minor or massive. Tribes would've shattered without minor lies such as 'I don't know where that mammoth's leg went.' and 'Yeah, the kid is totally yours'.
My NS classification does not necessarily represent my views. I am a right leaning centrist, the economy is important, civil and political freedoms are as well.

For: Limited Abortion (rape, under 20, etc.), Net Neutrality, Reforming Collegiate Tuition, Nationalistic Pride, Israel, LGBT Rights, Immigrant Assimilation, Dual Citizenship, Death Penalty, Abolish the Electoral College, Immunity for Edward Snowden, Welfare Drug Testing, Stem Cell Research
Against: Gun Control, Sanctuary Cities, Unrestricted Immigration, New Wave Feminism, Communism/Extreme Socialism, Gender Identity outside of Male/Female, Foreign Lobbying, Common Core (as it stands), NSA/The PATRIOT Act,
Neutral: Marijuana, Ending the War on Drugs

Humanity is good at inventing and improvising subterfuge. If someone made a perpetual motion machine perfect lie detector people would just start altering their own mindset and spin half-truths to make it easier to evade detection.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.
Where is your God-Emperor now?

I lie all the time and I hate it. Lying sucks.
But now that I started to lie less I get sad more often. People seem to dislike, misunderstand or simply don't want to hear the truth.

For the first I'd probably lie as well and follow up with a similar talk about how external beauty isn't important and such, but for the second I'd probably say something like 'just stay hopeful' or 'I'm no doctor, but I know that you never give up'. Even if some patients may get tired of hearing that sort of thing over and over again, I'd rather leave the depressing frankness to the doctors.

I wouldn't tell a terminally ill person they were gonna live. There's a lot to be done before you die. Get a will ready, contact family, etc. The truth will set that individual free from a horrible surprise. "LOL i lied. Now you only have a week to live. But weren't the stress free months worth it?"

Plato one time said that lying is all right as long as it's noble, unless you're Tom Cruise, Sean Bean, or Angry Black Man #2(sic) from Pulp Fiction.
So you decide to open it anyway? What the heck, man?

The problem is that when this becomes a habit, you have to start making up new lies to cover for inconsistencies in your old ones, and eventually you get caught out to much embarrassment and public shame. On the other hand, that isn't to say that I never lie. I just make sure that they're limited in scope, appropriate to the situation, and above all, necessary at that very moment. I also never tell one that I'm scared to be caught in.

So you agree lying is a necessity, even if overindulgence is bad.
