Why didn't he just keep saying stupid shit then?

I personally think he tried to keep his mouth under control, with some limited success, and then lost control again because he's Donald Trump and not saying stupid shit is for losers!

But the "Liberal Media" will ignore all this and focus on how Hillary Clinton has dandruff which is a symptom of leprosy.

Donald Trump, who has enjoyed a strained relationship with the press during the general election campaign, had a message for the crowd who attended a Thursday night rally in Laconia, New Hampshire.
“I have really good news for you. I just heard that the press is stuck on their airplane. They can’t get here. I love it,” Trump told the crowd of several hundred, according to transcripts posted on Twitter by NBC News. “They’re gonna be about 30 minutes late. They called us and said ‘Could you wait.’ I said ‘Absolutely not.’ Lets get going, right? Let’s get going New Hampshire.”

Trump openly treats the press with contempt when they don't suck his dick and wants it easier to sue them over butthurt but they keep pitching softballs at him and ignore his avalanche of scandals because ratings and false equivalence.

The plane was a chartered and organized by the Trump’s campaign. The journalists and their organization paid for the space in order to stick close to the Republican standard bearer.

Once again Trump screws people out of their money. It's pathological.

Can we build a wall on the Hudson and make Trump pay for it to keep him out of New England?

If the 538 Nowcast is to be believed, Trump is currently outperforming Mitt Romney and only needs one more state to get over 270. Trump is seemingly making a remarkable recovery of sorts, what has changed? Surely the paid maternity leave he is suggesting hasn't given him any major boost?

The fact that he's said that he believes Obama to be an American citizen and born in the USA might. Other than the fact that it's been a couple of bad days for Clinton.

Have I got this right: Trump now says that Obama was born in the US, and that Hillary started the whole birther thing?

About that.

http://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-37381452

The Republican candidate had been a leader of the "birther" movement that questioned Hawaii-born Mr Obama's citizenship.
But his campaign now accuses his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton of introducing the "smear" during the 2008 Democratic nomination contest.
There is no evidence to link Mrs Clinton to the birthers.

The BBC's North America Reporter Anthony Zurcher says the statement signed by senior Trump advisor Jason Miller is far from an admission of error.
Instead, he says, Mr Miller laid the genesis of the birther rumours wrongfully at the feet of Hillary Clinton and her 2008 presidential campaign team.
When they raised questions, Mr Miller said, it was "vicious and conniving" behaviour. By broaching the topic three years later, Mr Trump had done a "great service" to the public and president, Mr Miller said.
The statement follows an interview with the Washington Post newspaper in which Mr Trump had declined to say Mr Obama had been born in the US, saying instead that he did not want to answer the question.

Oh, on my road trip, I noticed Trump supporters seem to like to flaunt that they're Trump supporters with giant signs. Like seriously, every time I saw Trump 2016, it was a HUGE yard sign hung up on something. I don't think I've seen a single Hillary yard sign, but I've seen lots of Bernie bumper stickers. I've seen like one Clinton bumper sticker, and everything else sign or sticker related to Hillary has bee negative ones.

I did have a funny moment in California. We were driving to downtown Sacramento, and I was like "Hey look, a Bernie sticker, and a bunch of others", then I saw the license plate and the car was from Vermont

Someone else said that in this thread. [Searches thread for "Wisconsin"]. It was Oil exporting People.

Did you get this from one poll, and assume that any state for Trump within the margin of error is in the bag for him?

Trump is seemingly making a remarkable recovery of sorts, what has changed?

Clinton had a bad week.

Surely the paid maternity leave he is suggesting hasn't given him any major boost?

The Ivanka plan? Probably not.

But we should talk about it more, and of course not buy Trump's assertion that Clinton has no policy on maternity leave. Her policy is for 12 weeks maternity leave, for mothers and fathers, and she has a proposal to raise taxes to pay for it. That's been her policy since the primaries.

Trump's policy is for six weeks, only for women, and his proposal to pay for it is to cut down unemployment benefit fraud. It's Hillary lite and unfunded to boot.
