2016-17 College American Football Discussion

Postby 95X » Sun Sep 04, 2016 7:57 pm

NOTE: This thread is for debating and discussing the sport called "football" in the United States of America played at the collegiate level. For discussion of the sport called "soccer" in North America that's called "football" elsewhere in the world, try here.

NOW! With less FCS than the time I started a thread on the subject last year!
Lancearc wrote:I'm positively appalled, no College Football thread, even in the offseason it should at least be present :p
I agree, and we're now into the season!

While watching the Eastern Washington Eagles go on to win over the Washington State Cougars in Pullman, Washington, I realized there's no current college football thread. This is the second time in two years that Washington State lost to an FCS team, and the commentators on the Pac-12 network commented that Mike Leach hasn't won a home opener since becoming head coach of the Cougars. (Third-party source on both: http://www.krem.com/sports/ncaaf/washington-state-cougars/eastern-washington-defeats-washington-state/313390850) So far, this season has had four FCS wins over FBS opponents.

NSG required commentary: Well this looks like an interesting season already, and so far could be a good one on the FCS side of things due to the wins over the weekend.

I think the poll should definitely be changed. As FSU and Ole Miss have yet to play and Houston beat Oklahoma pretty badly

I'm aware the weekend isn't over, there's a last "other" option for those who would like to 'vote' for a different game, and the poll is set up so one can change their mind if they want. :)

Also, the poll has been updated to reflect that Texas defeated Notre Dame. Was alerted to it on IRC.

I'm hoping my Ducks can beat Nebraska this week, it's a pretty pivotal game for Oregon's season this year. Former Beavers coach Mike Riley seems to be doing very well with the Cornhuskers - recruiting draw sure does make a difference in programmes.

And I would love to see Oklahoma beat Ohio State. :)

Four total votes in the Week 1 poll, (what was the) "Biggest upset of Labor Day Weekend?"
Two for Texas over Notre Dame, one for Texas A&M over UCLA, and one for Eastern Washington over Washington State. ;)

Also, for anyone thinking of boarding the FCS Bandwagon, NDSU defeated Eastern Washington in overtime at the Fargodome last Saturday, 50-44.

The new poll question for Week 3 is "Which FBS Top 10 game are you most looking forward to?" This is based on the AP Poll according to ESPN's website, so also feel free to debate the merits of said poll and/or your team if you wish.

After their first two games I'm praying Iowa State doesn't get crushed by the Big 12 power houses (Oklahoma, OSU and TCU)

When do they play them?

They play TCU Saturday on national TV(fox) and the other two latter on. I know that ISU wont go winless because Kansas football sucks even more.

In 2013 they lost to Baylor 76-7 and lost to TCU the next year 70-7.

Well they didn't get crushed only lost 41-20, at least they weren't like FSU getting blown out 63-20.

JALEN HURTS. Image

This obviously means Alabama won't win the SEC and won't make it to the CFP. Last two times they lost to Ole Miss, they did. Coincidence? I think not.

It's a reference to the "conspiracy" that in the last two seasons Alabama has lost to Ole Miss but still went on to play in the CFP, even winning the national championship last season. Now that they've beat Ole Miss, it won't happen.

tl;dr it's a meme

The results of the Week 3 poll, "Which FBS Top 10 game are you most looking forward to?", were: 4 for Florida State at Louisville; 2 for Ohio St. at Oklahoma; 1 each for Alamama at Ole Miss, Colorado at Michigan, and none/other.
Thermodolia wrote:I really want Louisville to crush FSU.
And that's what you got! Nice, huh?

Week 4 started with Clemson defeating Georgia Tech, and there's a full slate of action. My team starts its Big Sky Conference schedule, so there's probably not much to discuss there.

Josh Dobbs isn't a very good engineer. He can't even engineer a scoring drive.

Welp, I stand corrected.

Now I have to fathom the thought that Alabama will get destroyed by Tennessee on October 15th. Bama's secondary is pretty much non-existent (the only team I've ever seen that can have four guys covering one receiver and still let him make the catch), and we're going into a 102,000+ stadium with a true freshman QB.

If we can at least score 3 points I'll be happy. Still RIP Hurts.
