You mean I'm not allowed to enslave any person my ROV spots in public when I refuse to leave my house ever?

Apparently some obscure old law says you're not allowed to enslave, like, anyone ever.

It seems simple to me. If I don't owe other people my time, then it's just my own time.

I generally don't talk to random people, regardless of what gender they are or whether they're wearing headphones. I just have nothing to say. (that anybody would want to hear)

This isn't really a "men shouldn't talk to women" issue so much as a "don't bother people when they're trying to enjoy their music" issue.

We've moral obligation to talk to someone who's obviously not in any significant danger? Did i miss the memo on how we're all gonna be jackasses with no respect or consideration for other people's time instead of sensible people who use roads to get from point A to B with minimal interference to ofhers?

No, but being a decent person, you should give them your time.

Why? I'm on a train or a bus. I got on that train or bus because I wanted to get from point A to point B - either to meet friends or go to work. I want to listen to music, so I put my headphones in and listen.

I've done my "decent person" duty right there. I'm making sure that my music doesn't interfere with other people's journey. I have absolutely no wish to have my journey interfered with because some numpty wants a chat. If they want to chat, or hit on people, then there are establishments that cater for this.

There is no "should give them my time" here at all. They're not entitled to it.

Yes because we are all special snowflakes who lI've in a bubble only conscious of ourselves.

Wearing headphones does preclude you from society. If someone asks you something you answer, even if that answer is "please leave me alone", wearing headphones does not give you a pass from being a human being.

Fair enough, if someone asks me a question I will answer - I was under the impression that we were dealing with someone striking up conversation feeling "entitled" to a response from me longer than "Sorry, I'm busy". If that's the case, then no - they are most certainly not entitled to that.

It's possible there's a cultural issue here. Joking aside, acting like this where I live would be considered very rude.

If we're talking about hitting on someone, there are many who just play the averages game - ask enough people and eventually you'll get lucky. I'd imagine for people like that being bloody rude and invasive wouldn't be much of a barrier.

If anyone tries to talk to me when I have headphones in I will ignore them. If they are persistent I will tell them to go away. I am not a people person and it is presumptuous of anyone, regardless of gender, to presume that someone wants to engage with them. Shoo.

If I saw someone and thought they were hot, but they interrupted me whilst I was listening to my headphones or reading a book to hit on me, I would become instantly unattracted to them because of how shitty and inconsiderate they are.

Seriously, people are listening to headphones in public because they want to listen to whatever they're listening to. They don't want to hear some asshole stranger's pick up line.

Like, if there's an emergency, fine. If your friend fell down a well and you're hoping I can call emergency services for you or you're choking on your lunch and want me to do the Heimlich maneuver, then sure, interrupt me. Otherwise, you can fuck right off.

It's uncivil to talk to interrupt people who are doing something in order to hit on them.

If someone else is going to be rude to me, I have no reason to be polite to them. I might choose to be polite to them, but I'm not obliged to.
