This is the third part to the right-wing discussion thread I created in December 2015. 8 Months and three threads, we've had a good run, let's not end it anytime soon. This is what we will discuss:

•The Right-Wing in General
•Right-wing Politics

  • The OP is Unfairly banned for something.
  • A left-winger appears, makes a dismissive or vaguely insulting comment, then disappears without making any effort to debate.
  • Someone calls someone else a "liberal" in spite of the fact that they are blatantly not a liberal.
  • Some attempts to impose their arbitrary and counter-intuitive definition of "right-wing" on everyone else, who are all naturally excluded by said definition.
  • A raging debate breaks out about LGBT issues.
  • Down the bottle if Renewed Imperial Germany is involved in starting above debate.
  • OP asks for poll suggestions, promptly ignores all suggestions from people he doesn't like.
  • A left-winger enters and begins ferociously attacking a political strawman with no relevance to the previous topic of discussion.
  • A right-winger appears with views corresponding almost exactly to the above strawman, causing most other right-wingers in the thread to smash their heads against their desks repeatedly until they pass out from severe brain damage and internal bleeding.
  • Someone, not naming names UNM begins waifuposting
  • An NSG veteran reminisces about the time when the NSG Right was still respectable.
  • Down a keg of blood every time Warhammer is referenced.

I think a good poll to do would be "monarchy or republic."

Favourite government type? That's a lot broader so it could work better.

I'm just going to copy this over from the previous thread.

The East Marches wrote:What do the gentlemen of the RWDT think of why China never industrialized? Before the West, China had stability, wealth, good government (for the time) and a good level of scientific achievement. What reasons do you think are behind China's lack of such an event. By all means, they should have had one much before the West.

There are plenty of reasons why Chinese technological advancement may have stagnated by the time of the Qing dynasty. Some are social, some economic, others geographical.

I don't have time to address the question as fully as I would like to, but briefly:
    1) Neo-Confucian ideology held agricultural workers to be the basis of society, and merchants were viewed as "parasitic" as they did not produce anything but merely moved goods around. Consequently the Chinese state supressed the rise of a merchant class and China remained an agrarian economy whilst European states moved towards a capitalist production model.
    2) Long periods of stability, prosperity and hegemony over the surrounding states under the Ming and Qing dynasties resulted in little pressure to innovate. Necessity, after all, is the mother of invention; conflict and competition tend to result in technological advancement, whereas peace and prosperity result in stagnation.
    3) In Britain, industrialisation was in part preceded by the widescale adoption of coal as a fuel to replace wood, as the former was abundant and accessible whilst the latter was becoming scarce as a result of widespread deforestation. In China, there was never a significant shortage of wood and there were geographical difficulties with transporting coal from the parts of China where it was found to the major population centres. As such coal was never a practical fuel in Imperial China.
    4) Whilst Neo-Confucianism was fundamentally a rationalist philosophy that may have influenced early modern philosophers in Europe, Chinese philosophers and intellectuals never developed the rigorous empiricism of their European counterparts, and therefore never developed anything similar to the scientific method.

I agree. Favorite government type.

Don't forget Neo-Bonapartist Dictatorship. I'll settle for just 'benevolent dictatorship', if ye must.

Down a shot every time Renewed Imperial Germany uses the word 'Puddin' to refer to something other than food.

I have another amendment.

Down a shot of your strongest beverage every time someone gets offended and pointlessly argues their beliefs despite the fact that it won't change anyone's opinion.

I've become a lot more sympathetic to Communism recently after learning that "withering away of the state" doesn't mean an end to national governments, but merely the state as a class entity.
