How can there be scientific evidence for what is ultimately a philosophical question? As I clarified, people don't exclude animals from moral judgment (nominally) because of some strictly applied standard. They do it because that's how it's done. They don't think about it. They just reject lower animals as amoral without cause.

Not true. Cats can cleary feel pain, pleasure, happiness and sadness. As well affection towards specific other cats and people.

They are egoists though. They will kill and torture smaller and weaker things just for entertainment. They just do not see anything wrong with it. It does not harm the cat to brutally torture a mouse to death. Plus they think it fun. So as egotists why not do it?

I'm not being serious, I'm utilising my hatred for cats for facetious purposes.

That doesn't make them right. Moreover, some people undoubtedly prefer chaos, or a form of order that clashes greatly with your worldview.

If I am a psychopath, killing other humans for sport is desirable. Does this make it rational and/or acceptable?
For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.
