I would say that said biases (values) would have to come into play when making a decision, which would exclude anything regarded as insufficiently complex to make 'decisions', but otherwise, yes. Virtue ethicist here.

Not true. Cats can cleary feel pain, pleasure, happiness and sadness. As well affection towards specific other cats and people.

That's the shortcut and it's a fine and dandy one. Not to mention it works. The whole cessation of suffering is a difficult journey and one must be skeptical of anyways.
