Family guy is still hilarious if mostly for the random acts of extreme violence/offense

Well that's just the problem, they're not being funny because they came up with something clever or thought provoking. They're funny because they're like that kid in Elementary school who screams out BOOBS, SEX, DRUGS, ROCK AND ROLL, OLD PEOPLE, FART!

There's not even a freakin contest, Family Guy is such a blatant rip off of The Simpsons appealing to the lowest common denominator of drunk/stoned 14-18 year olds, yea jokes about sex and chicken fights that last for 7min were hilarious when I was 16 and stoned. The Simpsons actually broke ground, had meaningful morals, coherent plot lines, developed characters.

Family Guy feels like it's written by a 19 year old trying to be edgy by making tons of offensive jokes. And it's destroyed FOX. FOX will suck Seth McFarlane's dick for anything now. They canceled King of the Hill for The Cleavland show, wtf, WTF. And you think it's more then likely that The Simpsons recent decline aside from just being on for 20 years has been it having to be more like family guy until they finally realized it's an asinine idea and started to get their shit back together.

Family Guy has ruined plot lines forever and people's ability to actually pay attention to a show.

I think Family Guy tries too hard to be funny, and it fails.

I think South Park is funnier than the Simpsons on the whole, but they can make more and dirtier jokes being on cable and all. In light of this handicap (and the fact that the Simpons was almost as funny for some time) I have to hand it to the Simpsons. My father occasionally remarks: "I've been watching TV for fifty years, and the Simpsons is the best thing I've seen on it."
"I am the Elder King: Melkor, first and mightiest of the Valar, who was before the world, and made it. The shadow of my purpose lies upon Arda, and all that is in it bends slowly and surely to my will. But upon all whom you love my thought shall weigh as a cloud of Doom, and it shall bring them down into darkness and despair."

The one thing I like about South Park, is that 1. Yes it is dirtier and offensive, but they have taken a page from Mel Brook's playbook and offend everyone! They've also do more with their humor rather than "BOOBS, SEX, BOOBS, CRIPPLES, BOOBS!" their jokes are more thought out, and actually has to do with the main plot!

I can't remember the episode, but Eric Cartman made a very good observation about FG's humor vs. SP humor which I agree with. They do the same kind of humor, but SP just delivers it WAY better.

1. south park: offensive intellectual satire ftw

2. futurama: entertaining, mostly but occasionally makes me laugh, slightly better than simpsons

3. simpsons: see futurama but replace the word "better" with "less good" and replace "simpsons" with "futurama"

4. family guy: complete boring crap and it isnt even random in a good way.

Family Guy is much better. That said, it sucks to, and only wins because the Simpsons is a shell of itself nowadays.

I never got into the Simpsons, as I wasn't allowed to watch it as a kid, and I hated hearing about the show, since I had never seen it. The art also bothers me a lot- I don't want to look at yellow people.

As such I'd have to go with Family Guy over the Simpsons. Of course, Family Guy has been sucking lately, not that it was ever so great. The "hurt knee" and repetitive noise gags were never funny, and only prompted me using my remote.

You haven't watched any Simpsons episode pre 2000 have you? It actually use to be possible to take something away from the show, as someone said before Homer among others despite failing at it would always try to do the right thing.

It was always pretty stupid. The show has recently moved to trying to make points and take high ground and it is shit. Simpsons should have been taken off the air years ago but its age keeps it afloat. It's even possible to identify when it jumped the shark - when it started making "cast" changes all over the place, introducing or removing standard characters.

Like who? I haven't watched in a few years. To me, season 9 is the last entirely watchable season, and then seasons 10 and 11 have a few good episodes. I haven't really seen much of anything past season 15 or 16ish.

I'm going to go with old-school and say "Simpsons" for my vote.

I think Stewie is the only thing of interest from the Family Guy.

Killed off Flanders' wife. Introduced Apu's wife and some dozen kids. Changed Moe's character somewhat. There are more slight character changes but I don't keep up with it enough to recognize any but those.

Oh, I remember when they killed Maude. They kind of had to though--the voice actress left the show. Apu's wife and kids also came in before the show started to tank IMO (the valentine's day episode is pretty good), but I don't know what they've done with them since. Definitely agreed on Moe though; I think they've been overdoing the whole "depressed loner" thing with him in recent seasons.

Yea, I think it's time for Moe to find his true love and know what it feels like to be loved.

My dad would agree, I think. He laughs at Apu all around, but the episode where they have the kids makes him lose it. Especially the part where they enter Apu's house to find him on the ground, with an 8 bottle chest contraption on feeding the babies like a dog. "Welcome to my nightmare." He laughs so hard at that :)

If you're in the US, or can hunt down a proxy, it should be on Hulu.
