NBC has commercial breaks everywhere. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a commercial break in the middle of a Medal Ceremony. Sad thing is, Americans are great at covering sports, just look at how incredibly well the Superbowl is covered. Except for the halftime show, but that's when you just party with your friends; you shouldn't actually watch the halftime show.

The evidence came from an alleged extortionist, whom numerous people already caught in a lie. He is the only witness actually cited in WADA's report. Yep, the same idiot who thinks that SpetzNaz use lamps instead of flashlights. Out of Russia's 270+ Paralympians, there were 35 allegations, not a single genuine source cited, and not a single athlete was named. Even by Russia's Judicial Standards this seems absurd. Even by China's. Perhaps even by North Korea's. But not by Coe's, or Craven's, or Reedie's, or McLaren's. If a Judge was to rule like that in California on a major commercial case, his or her ass would be impeached in the very next election. In what can only be summarized as Craven trolling the Russians, that piece of shit stated:

I don't disagree with the fact that Russia's Paralympians being banned is severely unfair, in fact, I commented earlier in that regard. But I find it strange that you're putting it down to the moustache-twirling antics of a set of British administrators (who just happen to be British - they could have been any other nationality, but that doesn't fit your argument) as opposed to any legitimate reason - that reason being the Russian government has been proved to have been running a doping programme, or at least, there's fairly clear evidence of it. Saying otherwise is being blinded by chauvinism.

It would be convenient if Dr. Rodchenkov were just a random man off the street, so his claims would have less substance, but the fact that he's the former head of the Moscow Lab which was complicit in the doping - so he's about the most relevant person there could be. Also, the report names 'other witnesses who came forward on a confidential basis' for the reason that 'individuals who were identified to give interviews were fearful of speaking to the IC' - because he feared for his life, Dr. Rodchenkov has fled to the USA. That doesn't strike me as an environment conducive to transparency. So it's clear that there were other witnesses - the WADA can't get away with lying on a grand scale unlike some bodies - they just didn't want to name themselves for fear of getting an ice-pick in the head. There was also 'unsolicited, an extensive narrative with attachments from one important government representative described in this Report' - if you want to keep something secret in government, it's best not to have government officials giving 'extensive narratives' to investigative bodies.

It was the wrong punishment, but the right reason. The wrong people, the Russian Paralympians, have been blamed and punished. Although perhaps the punishment, however unjust, might be the wake-up call Russia needs to re-examine it's practices in sports.

Whether or not the minuatiae of the evidence is up to scratch, it's pretty clear to everybody (except, unsurprisingly, some elements of Russian political and sporting governance) that doping has been going on in Russia. To what extent (although it appears pretty extensive) and for how long is up for debate, but it's happening - and something, perhaps recklessly and poorly executed, is being done.

Collective punishment is rarely right, and it's most certainly wrong in this case, or in the case of IAAF, or the IWF. My point about banning Brits was a parody, although there is a disproportionate number of British, Americans, and Canadians engaged in what any sane person would be calling a "witch hunt" against Russian athletes. You claim that there's fairly clear evidence of Russia's doping program - so please name a single report that does not list either Rodchenkov, Stepanov, or Rusanova, as a primary source, actually lists the primary source, and was independently verifiable. Where is this very clear evidence? I'm seeing the exact same propaganda model that was used by the US/UK to "find" WMDs in Iraq, also used to "find" systematic doping. We just need to start calling Rodchenkov - Magellan. Or wait, that's taken, perhaps someone else who employed biological warfare against the Natives, how about - Columbus?

Just to cite a recent example - Efimova was "caught doping" on Meldonium, even though Meldonium was improperly banned by WADA, and I hope the Eastern Europeans sue the shit out of WADA over the Meldonium ban. Long story short, you could have legally administered Meldonium on December 31st, before it was banned, and it would stay in your system for quite a while, meaning that you would be punished for WADA for not breaking a single rule. WADA did not allow a grace period for Meldonium to exit the system. Furthermore, Melodonium helps Eastern European women more than anyone else, statistically speaking. And Eastern European women haven't had it easy. Either way, with the Meldonium ban, WADA has, de jure and de facto, created a possibility that an innocent person would be found guilty, and said person would most likely be a member of a vulnerable group. Why do you think the IOC is distancing themselves from WADA?

In terms of witnesses, as I'm sure you know, the Western System of Jurisprudence has this wonderful thing called Cross-Examination. On the Cross, no matter how important a person is, if he's destroyed, his evidence will be treated accordingly, by the Jury or even the Judge. Rodchenkov might have been the head, but his reputation is in the toilet. His claims have yet to be verified by truly independent experts. Any of his claims. The reason that McLaren's Report was rushed, was so that it could be presented on the eve of the Olympics, before they can be countered. This followed by the US/UK Press, practically the same ones that tooted the Iraqi War horn, demanding a blanket ban.

The whole "they couldn't be named for fear of an icepick in the head" part is utter nonsense Cold War Mentality, which, ironically, can lead us to a glorious Cold War 2.0. The "glorious" part was sarcasm. In reality, "icepick, blah, blah, head" is what you'd say when you have no evidence. It's not like those, probably nonexistent, sources are a threat to Russia. Maybe it's Bob Novak and Valerie Plame? Anyways, you don't just randomly assassinate people for disagreeing with you. I've seen Russian forums call for making Rodchenkov a pariah, but I've yet to see any calls for his murder. Why? How is he supposed to pay back his victims if he's dead? And he's got a lot to answer for. Killing him makes no sense. You think that Russians just kill for fun?

Russia will examine its practices in sports and, IMHO, quite a few people need to be purged and spend some time cleaning toilets at Moscow's "super-clean" train stations. Doping has been going on in all major sporting countries, but the issue is the extent. And if WADA is using a single, alleged extortionist, to determine the extent, then WADA deserves to be destroyed as an organization. Speaking of the McLaren Report, yeah, I've read it. It's a piece of crap. How can you be independent of WADA, when your timeline is dependent on WADA? How can you independently conduct a throughout research, in less than 63 days, on hundreds of doping samples and athletes? The McLaren Report is solely dependent on Rodchenkov's testimony, and Rodchenkov lied before. He has motive to lie, for if WADA is destroyed, who would support Rodchenkov's livelyhood? Then again, I heard he's in California, and we are desperately short of beach toilet cleaners. Sure it's minimum wage, but it's a job that's perfect for Rodchenkov.
