Can't wait till USA and China are knocked off their high stool in the medal table - maybe that'll be this year, 2020 or 2024 (which should be held in France)

I said "The medal table" which corresponds to each individual edition's medal table, not the overall Medal-table otherwise I would've said the overall medal table.

Mathematically speaking, China can't beat USA in 2016-2024, so why would I infer the overall medal table?

Just made myself clear if I still wasn't.

Also, Sweden has catching up to do. Sweden's average is 18, while China is 52 medals per games. That is how you should measure which nation should have the catching up to do, because Sweden has a 17 Games advantage.

Look here's a hypothetical.

Say two people both grow up to be famous painters. One paints four famous paintings, the other paints ten famous paintings.

But the first person was born thirty years earlier. So when the second artist is on his third famous painting does he have catching up to do? Yes because the other person has more paintings.

Yes I'm aware it's only because the first artist was doing it longer but that doesn't make my statement wrong. Same with Sweden. More medals than China even if it's only because they've been doing it more, so China is behind. I don't see why you don't recognize past Olympic Games. They still count.

I do, but unlike you, I average them so that its fair fo all countries. Had China participated 26 times, it would've topped Sweden. It has nothing to do with paintings, it's incomparable. Let's agree to disagree, simply because you believe in one thing I don't agree in, and you don't agree in something I don't believe in. :)

But to be clear, I was speaking about 2004-2012 if you want specific Summer Olympics.

They seem to be legitimately talking about global warming in the opening ceremony. Wow. Definitely unexpected.

New Zealand has no dirt on Australia. :p

I'm hoping for another Steven Bradbury moment but on a 'Winning all Olympic events' scale.

Guys, I'm seeing a polemic centered around Santos Dumont appearance in the presentation.

If by chance you do not know who he is, it was the mustached person aboard the 14 Bis, and to a part of the world, creator of the airplane. The whole polemic is centered around the claim by other people, who remember the name of the Wright brothers.

I'll not start a discussion here, but what do you guys make of it?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I thought that the opening ceremony was underwhelming.

The Olympic flame spinny thing from the Opening Ceremony was cool (if anyone knows what I'm talking about).

Yeah if by "winter" you mean 25 degrees instead of 40. Brazil's "winter" temperatures are our summer temperatures.
