Pele's spokesman Pepito Fornos added: "He is walking with a cane. The problem is that if he sits in a chair you need a winch to get him out of it.
"His doctor thought it best that he continues physiotherapy, that he rests and we hope that he will be able to appear at the [Olympic] closing ceremony."
Earlier this week, Pele said that he was asked to light the cauldron by the organisers, however he had "an international commitment with an English company". The former footballer added that if he could change his travel plans it be an "honour" to carry out the task.

Note that there's some lack of clarity here, however, as Pele himself had previously mentioned a conflicting sponsor's commitment:Earlier this week, Pele said that he was asked to light the cauldron by the organisers, however he had "an international commitment with an English company". The former footballer added that if he could change his travel plans it be an "honour" to carry out the task.

That is not going to happen. One thing I do not understand is why India does so badly despit their population size.

Oh yeah, of course. We might see LEDC climb the Aquatics medal table. The first Galactic Republic wrote:China isn't top five.

India, not sure. A lot of countries which do well in European Games, Commonwealth Games etc, don't do well in the Olympics for some reason. India should be topping the league - but maybe training and facilities doesn't match that of US, GBR or France.

It's not subjective. China has less medals than Russia and a number of Western European countries so it's weird to compare it to the US and not another country in medal count.
