Good to see this topic still being active ^-^

A question that I have in mind after all of this, would Donald Trump be commiting treason by asking an opponent of the US to hack a citizen of the US?

no, its campaign rhetoric not a real request. also hacking hillary is not hacking the pentagon. it is not treason as defined in the legal code.

And since she was no longer a State Department employee herself, those could not be applied to her. You can't really punish someone the way you'd punish an employee if they resigned over three years before.

A nice bit of rationalization.
I think I will forward the idea that police, military, and clandestine agents can simply evade responsibility for their actions by resigning, or at least transferring to a different service. Seems only fair.

The FBI's standard modus operandi is to not even investigate if there is no intent to prosecute, so there is singular oddity one about the affair. The truth of the matter is that Comey choked.

He realized exactly who he was pulling the trigger on, probably figured in the dismal history of Clinton opponents, and a bleak future of being tied to the whipping post by the AP for the rest of his days and beyond. With any possible hope of upward mobility evaporating in the face of that, Comey backpedaled with a typically weak legal interpretation, basically waving away the public trust with "I am sure she was just kidding. So, no harm done."

Good as anything.

No. Treason is limited by the Constitution to "levying war against the United States... or giving their enemies aid and comfort".

He hasn't declared Trumplandia a country yet, nor has he actively tried to help Russia hack Hillary. You might be able to make the case that he gave comfort to Russia, but I doubt it.

That said, I feel they should both be in prison at this point.

Actually, we have moved past that.
The current question is, will and how will the Russians use the info they have against her presidency?
With a quick follow up of, how will Russian blackmail compete against, or compromise the various other interests who already own shares of her presidency through the foundation?

The first line was supposed to slander Grover Cleveland. The second line was added by the Democrats after he won anyway.

i did not know that, i was looking for the following written by an illonios paper about lincoln, but took to long for me to find

The illustrious Honest Old Abe has continued during the last week to make a fool of himself and to mortify and shame the intelligent people of this great nation. His speeches have demonstrated the fact that although originally a Herculean rail splitter and more lately a whimsical story teller and side splitter, he is no more capable of becoming a statesman, nay, even a moderate one, than the braying ass can become a noble lion. People now marvel how it came to pass that Mr. Lincoln should have been selected as the representative man of any party. His weak, wishy-washy, namby-pamby efforts, imbecile in matter, disgusting in manner, have made us the laughing stock of the whole world. The European powers will despise us because we have no better material out of which to make a President. The truth is, Lincoln is only a moderate lawyer and in the larger cities of the Union could pass for no more than a facetious pettifogger. Take him from his vocation and he loses even these small characteristics and indulges in simple twaddle which would disgrace a well bred school boy."

WHY
WHY would he say that? Has the "he really speaks his mind" meme gone too far? I mean I can see why he'd want Russia to release any incriminating things they have on Clinton, but if they had any they'd release them later anyway, right before the November polls. Does he have to literally say whatever he thinks without any tact at all?

He whose will and desire in conversation is to establish his own opinion, even though what he says is true, should recognize that he is sick with the devil’s disease. And if he behaves like this only in conversation with his equals, then perhaps the rebuke of his superiors may heal him. But if he acts in this way even with those who are greater and wiser than he, then his malady is humanly incurable.

To reiterate what others have said, Trump's statement was clearly made for humorous effect. Any suggestion that it is somehow actionable as "treason" makes you look stupid and paranoid, so I implore my fellow Democrats to cease with that line of attack.

No, it was a serious statement. It wasn't to actually a call hack anything (which would be impossible, since the server with those emails is gone), but it was to release any emails if they had them. He says the same thing on his twitter.
