I found quite the amusing theory about Trump's campaign.

Trump wanted to pursue the Reform Party's nomination for president in 2000 but the party was hijacked and essentially killed by Republicans. Trump's 2016 campaign is simply revenge for that and it's why he's doing so much dumb shit to hurt the GOP.

I know it probably isn't true but part of me wants to believe

The Johnson will probably grow in the polls over the next few months, but I think he'll ultimately underperform in the election.

If he goes up in the polls enough he might be able to be on the debates

I hope he does. He needs that exposure.
Plus, Trump seems to be really against third-party presence in the debates, which is pretty telling.

Either way, I don't think it would do much damage. Johnson did a decent job of clarifying his position when there was a kerfuffle in the Libertarian Party, and his actual position isn't objectionable.
