This is just the beginning, really. The entire coup was in all likelihood a false flag, considering how not a single AKP MP or member of Erdogan's inner circle was harmed, and by this point he's pretty much just setting the country up to be yet another Islamist failed State.

Pretty much everyone was cheering for the notion of Erdogan being removed from office. By now I've joined the mass of cynics that are of the opinion that the resulting purges are far too quick and well-organized to be a coincidence. I thus don my tinfoil tricorn and shall stand in line with the conspiracy loon battalion but the whole coup seems like one giant play to me by now.

Its entirely likely that this would have occurred. As it will do so anyway, given that's precisely the direction of travel Turkey had been in previously. What, would repression have stopped if there had been no coup? How about instability? Terror?
