Truck Drives Through Crowd in Nice, France

It seems that a truck drove through a crowd during Bastille Day celebrations in Nice. There were also reports of gunshots earlier in the night, but that could be attributed to fireworks going off. 30 people have been reported dead, and already there are allegations of it being a terror attack. What do you think, NSG? Could ISIS or another terror group be responsible, or was it something else that brought the driver to plow through the crowd of revelers?

In my opinion, I think it's entirely possible ISIS could have done it, but since there's not a lot of details at the moment I'm not going to jump the gun on it. From what I've read, the driver was shot and killed, so it seems that the police believed what he did was intentional, and not an accident.

I don't know who would be behind this, but damn. On Bastille Day. It's not getting any better for France.

Beat me to an op, so here's what I was writing -

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/14/europe/ni ... index.html

A Truck/Lorry has rammed a crowd in France on Bastille day, kills at least 30 people (100+ injured), occupants have reportedly exchanged gunfire with police. Initial reports from police present state that this was a deliberate attack.

If this does indeed prove to be a terror attack, and not an accident that resulted in police firing on the vehicle with confusion resulting, it would be an interesting shift in that there was, for once, no explosive detonation - rather, a large vehicle was the primary weapon. Could this mark the evolution of a move towards attacks that require less planning, resources, and difficult to obtain traceable elements such as explosives, as police and military forces across Europe crack down on cells?

Noting the recent Brexit, and some talk of a potential French follow-up,do you think this could contribute to a move towards safer borders in France, even if that requires leaving the EU?

Definitely a terror attack, timing pretty much says it.

Now I'm waiting for a Trump tweet doubling down on calling for armed civilians and ejection of all suspected Muslims.

Daesh and/or fanboys looking for street cred in the wake of military losses.

Likely a terror attack based on timing, could be am accident like the bin lorry in scotland.

This isn't a new tactic by terrorists though, pretty standard one by Hamas, Fatah and Hezbollah in Israel.

Didn't a similar thing happen in an Austrian city in an event before a Grand Prix last year? Everyone claimed terrorist at first, but it ended up being just a man with mental health issues

The timing certainly would suggest terrorism, saw something a few days ago about Hamza bin Laden (Osama's son) calling for al-Qaeda revenge attacks again. Or could be our thorns in sides, Daesh again.

That wasn't very Nice of that truck driver to be running over a crowd. I hope to the Nine Divines that it wasn't ISIS.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion so easily, especially if there were fireworks going off.

"A witness, Wassim Bouhlel, told the Associated Press that he saw the truck drive into the crowd, then witnessed the driver emerge with a gun and start shooting."

The solution here is to ban high capacity assault trucks as well.

My bet? Le Penn. Feeds a narrative that Muslims are evil, some people start treating Muslims like shit, some of those Muslims snap under this, join ISIS, and the cycle can be lea to continue.

I can only assume it's either ISIS or an unfortunate drunk driving incident.

Either way, my hearts out to the victims families.
