I'd argue that they're different because they serve different functions. Amphibious assault ships main purpose is to land ground forces and then assist them (which is why they also include amphibious landing craft support) while aircraft carriers are essentially mobile airbases for fixed wing aircraft.

They function differently, sure, I was just making the point that you can technically classify the HMS Ocean as an aircraft carrier in the literal sense. Obviously we currently lack the capability that, say, Russia's aircraft carrier does, but that'll change over the next four years as the HMS QE is put in action.

Especially since France hasn't been a member of NATO for decades.

France has been a member since 1949. It withdrew from the integrated command structure in 19671966 and rejoined under Sarkozy's presidency. Not to mention that there were secret accords to bring France back into the command structure should hostilities break out.

This is batshit crazy. They don't seem to care what the democratic will of their members is. But I think this nicely puts to bed any remaining notions that it is Corbyn, and not his opponenets, who are splitting the party.
