what did you think of the rotating title idea incidentally
ask moderation about reading serious moderation candidates TGs without telling them about it until afterwards and/or apparently refusing to confirm/deny the exact timeline of TG reading ~~~ i hope you never sent any of the recent mods or the ones that got really close anything personal!

signature edit: confirmation has been received. they will explicitly do it before and without asking. they can look at TGs basically whenever they want so please keep this in mind when nominating people for moderator or TGing good posters/anyone!

What is the best county in England?

Technically not one, but shameless plug for Greater London.

Could you remind me? I honestly don't remember seeing it.

I've been having a difficult couple of weeks health-wise, so I haven't always been around as much as I usually might be.

As you said, Greater London is not a county.

Yorkshire is obviously the best county in England, however. In fact, it's the best county in Britain. This isn't controversial.

Well, if London isn't allowed, then I'll gun for the county that my borough used to be part of: Kent. The Garden of England.

To be honest, Yorkshire is a bit mid-tier in terms of counties, above Powys but below Essex, from an UK-wide perspective.

God sent his own son to Earth and then had him killed.

I'm not from Yorkshire and have actually played youth cricket for Lancashire. But, Yorkshire has got to be in the top five most beautiful non human entities in the world.

Because the War of the Roses was written by George RR Martin.

I really wouldn't waste too much time holding him up as an exemplar of anything in particular; if he can't bring himself to reform his behaviour, he'll likely be DEAT before the year is out. At which point he'll no doubt predictably rail against the standard of moderation on the site (see point B, above); but then he did that with his previous main account as well.

And I really wouldn't recommend provoking fights between anyone; not even as a joke.

I love your style of moderation, Arch.

Yorkshire is many many many many times better than Kent, and several hundred times better than Essex, which is by far the worst county in the country. It's full of southern parvenus who drink designer cider.

Yorkshire is the geographically largest county and the most populous. It has a distinct identity and culture, a wide variety of life—urban and rural—with big industrial cities like Sheffield and older, smaller non-industrial cities like York, financial cities like Leeds, and ports like Hull. It has an international airport and several major train hub stations.

It has real English beer (unlike Kent) and real English food (unlike anywhere in the South), real English people (unlike London), real English towns and cities (unlike Buckinghamshire). It doesn't have any scallies (like Manchester), any rubbish accents (like Birmingham) and any surfers (like Cornwall).

It also has a tea brand named after it, its own county-based internet service provider, its own regiment (which many counties no longer have [it also has several]), a huge proportion of the country's successful olympic athletes, some famous football teams, and much, much more.

I've always had a soft spot for Clackmannanshire.

But for really obscure yet fascinating historical British counties, I offer the now unfortunately abolished Cromartyshire, which was merged into Ross and Cromarty in 1890. It was an eccentric collection of c.21 (counts vary) unconnected exclaves scattered around the northern Highlands.
