I've always found that kind of creepy, to be honest.

Before DeBeers managed to create a market for their product, the most popular gems were rubies and sapphires. I'd probably opt for the lab grown equivalents. The entire point is that to the naked eye, there is virtually no difference between an artificial and a natural diamond. One takes 6 to 10 weeks to produce under lab conditions, while the other takes a million or so years to come up to the surface of the earth but has more imperfections. I just do not see a downside.
If synthetic diamonds become commonplace and accepted among consumers the DeBeers company will be in deep trouble. They once had a monopoly on diamond manufacture, then a near monopoly before coming down to having 80% of that market. It will only get worse for them. Odds are good that should supply and demand catch up, diamonds are going to plummet in value and become really affordable. This will have some applications in computer manufacturing. Able to withstand much higher temperatures than silicon.

That was and probably still is my problem.
I've almost resigned myself to being "forever alone" but what the fuck can you do when you're fucking grounded and half your schoolmates are taking off to the Coasts or something?

I watched a documentary on CNBC that showed some massive vaults DeBeers kept where they just bought up the supply of diamonds. I've already heard Zales and Tiffany's are suffering losses as the current generation doesn't like diamonds but prefers experiences. I think their entire model of doing business will be up in smoke soon enough. Attacked from both the demand and the supply side, I don't see much of a future for them.
I think one day that synthetic diamonds will become accepted among consumers. I am partial to sapphires myself if I had to choose between the lot.

use your head and have fun.
The issue with the bar is that people, myself included, often get drunk beyond making good decisions.
And it ain't too hard to get yourself halfway around the world these days.
