What is Humanity's Worst Failure?

Postby Socialist Nordia » Sun Jul 03, 2016 6:35 pm

This was inspired by an earlier thread about humanity's greatest success.
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=382295
I figured this thread would balance it out. Humanity has done some really bad things. I listed a few in the poll, but feel free to make suggestions. Popular ones might be added to the poll. In my view, the worst thing we ever did was the holocaust. One could make a good case for climate change though, since it could potentially wipe out the entire species. That hasn't happened yet though. Anyway, please discuss.

Colonization of the Western Hemisphere, really should have done that AFTER we learned not to be so exploitative and villainous, but you live and you learn.

I'm going to go with climate change.

As despicable as the other options in the poll are, and specially history's many genocides, human civilization's irresponsible treatment of our own environment hasn't just endangered specific ethnic groups, but potentially all life on this planet.

While all the things in the poll are truly terrible options to choose one (save only Trump as I hardly consider him on the same level as an event that killed off millions), I'd say war in general is our worst failure. While it might've seemed as a necessity in early to even modern history, there really is no reason why one couldn't meet at the table with one's aggravations and talk it out instead.

Things like Genocide and the Imperialism hurt us humans.

But destruction of the environment and deforestation not only hurts fellow members of our species but life on Earth.

In capitalism, you pretty much have a 50/50 chance of being rich or poor. In communism, it's 1/99. What makes people think they have the luck/skill to become the 1% if they can't even succeed in a 50/50 society???

Honestly, the failure to intervene during the Rwandan genocide. Really proved we don't care about genocide nearly as much as we claim

Please remove Trump so the poll can be a bit more serious.

Wrong. It was the evolution of the human species that led to the fact. Not because of agriculture.

Agriculture certainly helped to be honest.
