Yeah it is a meme, but ive also seen some people use these memes and genuinely think there should be another bout of crusades because they are ultra radical Christians and or right wing zealots.

But its mostly memes from my experience.

The irony is the crusades failed. If you want to emulate somebody, why not somebody who actually won?

Brexit works because it is British-Exit. Same reason Frexit and Grexit "work".

Half the shit on the first page is garbage by comparison.

Well that did not help, but it did not look cowardly. Just stupid.

The big blow before that was the Franco-Prussian war.

The French ambassador says "Only since 1871."

France was the greatest land power prior to the German unification.
Germany dwarfed everyone, even Britain unless you included the wider empire.

It felt like it had something to prove, because the concert of Europe denied it access to empire, to resources and to oil.

It makes sense that the other nations with the strongest Eurosceptic movements would be able to push for a vote next. The nations that put the most into the Union project but receive the least in return.
So I'd guess that the Netherlands and France will hold votes in the next 2 to 5 years, and if they leave there might be referendums in Sweden, Denmark and Italy.
Of course in this hypothetical situation, after each nation leaves the Eurosceptic movement can expect to grow elsewhere, but the EU will keep making it harder to leave, maybe by applying economic pressures to nations that leave. That is until the project collapses and is abandoned.

Judging by how the whole Brexit referendum seems to turn more and more into a colossal joke at the expense of gullible British voters, I doubt we're going to see similar referendums in other countries anytime soon.

Only the media and middle class Brits seem to treat it as a joke. And Brexit voters are not gullible or idiots.
The movement is strong and seriously worrying the political establishment in countries such as France. I'd be most surprised if we were the last nation to leave.
