Oh, I think I am.
You're getting uppity over "high powered assault rifle" and eh, when I was as edgy as you I'd have been right up there with you until I realised it really didn't matter.
So you bring up the Mini-14, a weapon no different to an AR-15.
Of course I agree, I've made the point in the past and I stand by it.
But why bring it up? No-one's mentioned assault weapon bans of the dumb type that "ban" AR-15 and leave the functionally identical Mini-14 untouched.
He was able to acquire either. He was able to shoot a hundred people with either.
In most countries, this either doesn't happen at all or happens so laughably infrequently that we can say it "doesn't happen" and almost be literal.
The ease of availability of guns contributes to something, because this doesn't happen in countries with lower gun ownership rates. Gun culture is obviously the driving point though, since without it America wouldn't have so many guns.
Remember, guns aren't "banned" in the UK. Sure, handguns and semi-automatic rifles are, but so what? You can still buy any type of weapon that you want that conforms to those two qualifiers so long as the local bobby signs off on it, you demonstrate you can store it safely and you have a valid reason to own it - such as pest control, sport/target shooting or hunting.
What's wrong with that?

" that set him off.
