Gay Nightclub Attacked in Orlando, FL

Gunfire erupted at a nightclub in Orlando early Sunday, with multiple injuries reported, Florida authorities said.

"Everyone get out of Pulse and keep running," the club posted on its Facebook page.

Orlando police warned residents to stay away from the area, and urged people not to call their offices.

"Official updates will come from this Twitter account," they posted. "No email or phone calls please."

Pulse describes itself as "the hottest gay bar" in the heart of Orlando.

Hours before the shooting, the club urged partygoers to attend its "Latin flavor" night Saturday.

Obviously this is a developing story. According to witnesses, there is possibly more than one assailant with semi-automatic firearms as well as a possible hostage situation. A number of people have been injured.

At this stage, no one has been killed but it could be likely that there might be multiple fatalities if the hostage reports prove true.

What a sad waste of life but I am glad the attacker is dead. I've tried to find out more about it because I only learned about this from a BBC app on my phone. There are not a lot of specific details yet, probably because it is 0630 on the east coast right now.

They're entitled to shoot them if the person still poses an imminent threat to their safety or the safety of others. From the various reports I've seen, this may have well been the case, so let's not be too quick to chalk this up to some sort of trigger-happy response on the part of the responding officers.
