The 72 virgins thing is a myth based on faulty translations and other things.

If people believe it, then it is not a myth (in the urban legend sense of the word, I strongly suspect is still a myth, as in mythology and not real) and is actually part of that person's religion, or their particular brand of that religion.

2. a widely held but false belief or idea.

Something can still be considered a myth if a large amount of people believe it to be true. That's the great thing about truth- no matter what us humans think it is, or want it to be, it doesn't change.

I agree. I think that it's a myth that Muslim martyrs will get 72 virgins in heaven. But, if some Muslims believe that they will get those virgins, then it is not a myth that part of the religion, or more specifically, part of some sects of the religion, is the tenet that martyrs get virgins.

And why is that a morally wrong thing to do?

It violates the wishes of the person, it hurts them.

There's no objective reason why we "should" or "should not" do anything. It comes down to a subjective value system that you assume. I choose to value life and people and I want people to be happy. You can either live with infinite turtles beneath your feet, or accept that we're floating in empty space and at some point we just declare a frame of reference.

Putting aside that the first bit is purely opinion on your part: you were talking about euthanasia. As it happens, we do try to "extend human life artificially to such a length that hopefully in the future we would live virtually forever that death becomes a thing we do not have to worry about as much." Sometimes, we do so at the objection of the religious.

But when life becomes unbearable, then forcing it to continue is cruelty.

It's obvious that I meant it's a myth that the Quran actually claims that, regardless of what some people claim on the internet.
