And where did you get the ridiculous notion that the government can shut down all the newspapers? If they could they would have during the last scandal.

Ahem.
Teaching dog trick.
Arrested for handing in gun.
Shutting down press.

First link-I have already answered
Second link- Rule of British media, don't trust the daily mail
Third link- Britain has the same level of press freedom, check the link if you want. The accusation that we do not have a free press because it is not in our constitution is ridicolous, BECAUSE BRITAIN HAS AN UNWRITTEN CONSTITUTION. It cannot be in the constitution because there is no constitution.

Everything you say? I'll go tell all 2.6 million people employed by our manufacturing sector to get new jobs. Sure, we're losing out on about 140 billion pounds per year, but you said these jobs don't exist so they gotta go!

Bit pedantic, but depending on your definition, some countries actually might be full democracies :p

That index should be taken with a little grain of salt, naturally. But it is always interesting to look at other's views on the world.

From a modern standpoint, it's USA all the way. The USA is a global superpower. The USA is the most politically influential nation in the world. For example, the 2015 Paris Summit would have failed without the backing of the US (and China). The USA has the strongest military in the world. The US Navy is a blue water navy and is the best naval force in the world (sorry Britain :p ). The US Navy also has the most cruiser battle groups. Consequently, the USA has the top two air forces in the world. First, the US Air Force is the largest and most technologically advanced in the world. The second largest air force in the world is the US Naval Air Force, due to the large number of aircraft carriers. The US Army is the most well equipped and advanced army in the world. Additionally, US special forces, like Navy Seals and Army Rangers, are extremely effective. Culturally, the USA brought the world Jazz music, Rock 'n Roll, a large part of Pop, and today produces the most music in the world (I won't comment on the quality :p ). Scientifically, the USA leads pharmaceutical development and has more medical trials than all of Europe combined. The USA was the first, and still only, nation to land on the Moon. NASA also plans the send humans to Mars by 2030, and to asteroids by 2025. Economically, the US economy is the largest and most durable in the world and has recovered faster from the Great Recession than almost any other nation (Germany stronkest at recovery).

So the USA beats Britain politically, militarily, scientifically, and economically.

Why is this even a thread? It's purely hypothetical, proves nothing in the end past a bit of ego-stroking, and tends to lead to a great deal of inflammatory bullshit on either side of the argument - regardless of who is put to either side of that 'vs'. Do us a favor, and post something worth discussing, rather than something we can simply post to with derision, neh?

Why did I post at all? A sense of duty, good sirs. And moral outrage. Or something of the sort. It's still a silly topic, and probably ought to have been reported some time ago, and locked forthwith, in my never-to-be-humble-but-definitely-not-authority-driven-opinion.

Pizza has existed for around two thousand years and was created, shaped, flavoured and served by the Romans for the poorer men, and still is popular in Italy.

But pizza in it's current form was created by an Italian immigrant in New York.

So technically it's American, but tons of people think it's Italian.
