Actually the maximum operating speeds of Japanese trains are 150-200mph. Test speeds are not operating speeds.

Yes we have more limited passenger rail. But we have different geography and limited demand due to cheap domestic flights, busses and widespread availabilty of cars.

Still additional highspeed lines are being built in California and Nevada. But this is pretty off topic.

I think there should be less focus on historical claims to land and more focus on making sure everyone has decent living conditions -- cos right now a lot of Native Americans are living in shitty conditions, and that probably plays a major role in fueling resentment. It'd be easier to put the past to rest and move on if everyone had adequate housing and there weren't reservations where the average income is in 4 figures. I'm not a fan of upending society to redress things that happened hundreds of years ago, but that is no excuse to ignore the present day problems that people are still struggling with.

To be fair, 17th century Europeans didn't have any way to identify smallpox blankets either, except for knowing whose blanket it was. You can't tell just by looking at the blanket.

Actually, they developed an amazing test to tell a smallpox blanket from a regular one: they handed them out to the natives, and then observed which ones died from smallpox! It was remarkably effective, and when they had them sorted, they could just shoot the healthy ones and take their blankets back. Tell me that's not some damn fine ingenuity.

For one, can we reform the reservations as to avoid corruption and tribalism that leads to alcoholism, anti social behavior, and poverty? If you've ever talked to a family of four from Chinle, Navajo Rez, you see how truly heart wrenching it really is.

Furthermore, why do we bother with reservations at this point? I just think it'd be easier to cast that dark part of history aside, and have Native Americans live with all other U.S citizens, as opposed to having communities of segregated Natives on their own land. I know we can't just abolish the reservations like that, but we oughta try something.

I wouldn't mind giving them more land that they have that's actually farmable and give them proper treatment instead of leaving them in in non-arable places with the highest levels of alcohol and suicide and then kill one of their most sacred animal, the buffalo to near extinction.
