Actually the maximum operating speeds of Japanese trains are 150-200mph. Test speeds are not operating speeds.

Yes we have more limited passenger rail. But we have different geography and limited demand due to cheap domestic flights, busses and widespread availabilty of cars.

Still additional highspeed lines are being built in California and Nevada. But this is pretty off topic.

I think there should be less focus on historical claims to land and more focus on making sure everyone has decent living conditions -- cos right now a lot of Native Americans are living in shitty conditions, and that probably plays a major role in fueling resentment. It'd be easier to put the past to rest and move on if everyone had adequate housing and there weren't reservations where the average income is in 4 figures. I'm not a fan of upending society to redress things that happened hundreds of years ago, but that is no excuse to ignore the present day problems that people are still struggling with.

Why is it racist? Not all Native American tribes feel the need to boot white landowners off the land. Plus, the vast majority of the land in a lot of states west of the Mississippi (fucking A for spelling it correctly) is held by the federal or state government anyway.

Actually, they developed an amazing test to tell a smallpox blanket from a regular one: they handed them out to the natives, and then observed which ones died from smallpox! It was remarkably effective, and when they had them sorted, they could just shoot the healthy ones and take their blankets back. Tell me that's not some damn fine ingenuity.
