Trustworthy conservative news sources in the US?

Postby Cinnabarra » Mon May 16, 2016 10:54 am

It stroke me as a foreigner that America has a lot of well-respected and trusted newspapers leaning more or less to the left, be it left-wing or liberal. Several examples such as the New York Times, the LA Times, and a multitude of other famous papers. Of course, they are not all sternly polarized, but most of the stories they run, excluding opinion sections, are tilted toward the Democrats.

On the other hand, several right-wing news sources, more or less conservative, such as Fox News or Breitbart tend to run rather aggressive stories and in my opinion blow a lot of things out of proportion, even though I consider myself "leaning Republican". They also seem to be of a lesser importance, with less distinguished writers.

So why the imbalance? Are there any conservative news out there that won't call out Obama on his birth certificate or endorse Trump or criticize college students? In short, are there trustworthy conservatives newspapers or TV channels appealing to a wide range of right-wing opinions?

The New York Times is an apologist for the establishment (which is why it is 100% for Hillary). It's not liberal at all, really.

PBS and NPR are not liberal, because they depend upon advertisers (which they call something else) for revenue now that Congress has gutted their funding. So they give you reputation management scammers (covering up for incompetent doctors) and other sleazy capitalists.

What you (and the rest of us) most need is a reliable source which does not care whether it is called liberal or conservative, because it is not beholden to any ideology.

My choice is Reuters. Ever since out helicopters in Iraq targeted and killed a Reuters cameraman, I've known they must be on the side of right and justice.

I don't think that a news source that favours an ideology really can be trustworthy. It is biased by it's very nature.

Fox gets a bad rap, but it's not nearly as bad as people say. Of course, it's not exactly a pillar of journalistic integrity either, but if that's what you're looking for you shouldn't rely on cable news anyway. I suppose CNN comes closest, but even that isn't the greatest.
Better sources in the US are more print-type sources. Time, NYT, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Christian Science Monitor, etc. are all pretty good sources.

The Wall Street Journal and New York Times are both about the same in reporting the "pure" news. If you are looking for OP EDs, then look no further than the WSJ. Do remember there is a difference between the "news" and the OP ED sections of each paper. USA Today is pretty even handed too. I read them when I'm too lazy to both leafing through the WSJ.

I'd probably go with the WSJ and The Economist right off the bat. USA Today and the Washington post have their conservative moments and I would also rank them as good papers.

Depending on what exactly is being reported, Fox news can sometimes be trusted.

Or maybe given the amount and quality of the sources that are accused by right-wingers to be "left-biased", compared to the amount and quality of those considered by the right-wingers to be "unbiased", we can reach some other conclusion which involves a certain propension to whining.

But that may not be untrue, depending on the topic being discussed and the argument being used.

These are conservative positions. Why wouldn't conservatives endorse Trump our call out Chairman Obama on his birth in Honolulu? I think what you are really asking is if there is an American conservative news outlet that book licks progressive Democrats in which case you will find none.

I would suggest Drudge Report or World Net Daily.

Recently, I've been watching One America News and I think its pretty good. It does what I want: gives me the straight up news with little or no bias, a lost art in US media which is overwhelmingly liberal, and the op is right, the right is usually blown into space.

Out of all news sources in the US, it has to be the least bias BY FAR, and will literally read you and explain the headlines, without bashing Trump or glorifying Hillary: or vise versa. Y'all may need to check it out.

Sure, but it's not an argument, it's a brief smug saying. *Shrug* It's no worse than the "If you aren't a liberal by the time you're 20 you don't have a heart, but if you aren't conservative by the time you're 40 then you don't have a head" nonsense.
