Trump doing something stupid and short sighted without thinking and then backtracking? Yeah he does that a lot.

US General Election Megathread: Trump vs Clinton

Freefall11111 wrote:Just received an email with some interesting predictions by the Economist Intelligence Unit:
- They expect Clinton to win and serve one term
- They expect the Senate to go blue, but the House to remain red
- They expect the business cycle will turn in 2019
- The recession from the turn will lead to a GOP victory in 2020 with small concessions made on immigration policy
- They expect union influence to weaken in the Dems as they grow more in favour of free trade and the GOP will grow more protectionist/anti-globalisation, and this big shift will be the determining factor of the next political realignment

I think they're half right.

THIS YEAR will be the realignment election, as the GOP essentially turns full fascist. Their protectionism and populism will attract a great many lower and middle-income voters, but their protectionism will alienate business interests, who will switch parties accordingly.

The result? The division between parties in America won't be between liberals and conservatives, as both parties will end up with their share of each. Rather, going forward, the division will be between those who want the current Constitutional system of rights and balanced powers under judicial review to continue and those who want to sweep it away in favor of unfettered strongman rule.

And people give Libertarians crap for saying "feel the Johnson"? Trump doesn't even have the excuse of having an unfortunate name or his supporters making up weird shit without asking him.

Assuming Rand Paul wanted anything to do with Trump... Why would Rand want to ruin his reputation like that?

Clearly, Trump's inner teenager is out of control. "We're going to teepee America!"

Just remember, the job isn't finished 'til the paperwork is done.

CNN's Dana Bash confirmed it a few minutes ago. What an amazingly indecisive moment for Trump to be let loose into the public eye. Incredible.

Meanwhile there is a military coup under way in Turkey! What a chaotic July.

Combined with the Brexit and recent terrorist attacks, the election is poised to turn on foreign affair and national security issues.

You'd think a percentage of the forum would be cheering on Newt.

Rand Paul wouldn't have accepted anyways.

Like I said, the most likely top picks would have had to been people who have nothing to lose, or that can stand to lose what little political clout they have.

Trump has effectively made his VP pick a poisoned chalice due to his infamy in the media. I imagine Pence is one of those people who can stand to lose political clout if Trump loses, and if he wins, probably show a different face of himself at the national level.

Surprisingly, this is where most people don't focus enough on, and is where we should focus far more than in domestic policy.

The office of the president doesn't have as much power in domestic matters, with most of the power resting in Congress. If you notice, a lot of presidents enforce their foreign policy powers far more than their domestic ones.

Noone who has gone behind Clinton has yet to suffer the same fate Christie and other Republicans have when it comes to their backing of Trump.

Clinton backers are simply called "corporate sellouts". Christie was basically doused in petrol and then ignited on fire on the news he was backing Trump.

Republicans are still finding a way to put her behind bars, and are even conducting an investigation/hearing on the investigation Comey was head of.

The madness didn't "went" anywhere, it still goes on.
