Memorable NSers

Postby San Marlindo » Tue May 03, 2016 6:38 am

Some of you who joined pretty recently won't remember this, but about five to six years ago there used to be a popular thread in F7 about memorable forumites, kind of like NS celebrities. People would post and comment on how well-known certain members were, and often elaborated about when they first posted in a discussion with them, or RPd with them, or raided with them. It was a great place for nostalgia.

I hope this can be a similar thread where we can talk specifically about those forumites who have impacted our lives or one point or another, including those who sadly are no longer among us. The ones that kinda stuck in our heads, the ones that always made us laugh, etc. But please - no insults.

Generalities: I remember Four-Sided Triangles because they called me a "Poe" my first day on the forum. I learned what the word "Poe" was that day!

Hippostania (spelling?) always made me laugh. So did the Truth and the Light (Lies and Ignorance). Funniest avatar goes to Franklin Bluth. Try debating seriously with a muppet. Of course, debating seriously with Richard Nixon - a la Mike the Progressive - was equally funny, especially when Mike was drunk. I miss Nightkill and South Asia Minor too for some reason because they both had the unique distinction of making me spray my drink over my keyboard. I forgot what it was?, but I've never laughed so hard at something on an online forum.

Other forums: Jenrak, Junkyland, and Of the Quendi introduced me to RPing. I have nothing but fond memories of Jenrak, but is it true they had cancer at one point?

Oh well, these are some of the people I can recollect from my time on NS. Sadly, others I cannot remember their names just their avatars. Like pink flash animation of a gas mask girl.

What about you? Who were the most memorable characters in your colorful past on this forum? Anybody who made a difference?

I don't think any NSers are memorable. For you see, I have amnesia.

Obviously there is only one memorable NSer.

ME!

Things that make it to the 'memorable' part of my brain go through so low of a criteria and yet my memory disposal systems are so dysfunctional I can't even list 'a few' based from a hierarchy.

Lots of memorable people that used to be around but aren't anymore for variety of reasons. Divair, Thafoo, Algonquin ascendancy, Dyakovo, Lianhua, Hathardic States, just to mention some from the top of my head. As for the OP's list, can't say I miss Bluth at all. And hippo is still around.

No, really.

Edit: I meant to say, "I remember you as Cookie Monster Eyes. Some times the avatar sticks but the name doesn't."

Man, I remember all of those people. Though I think Mike the Progresove may be coming back in a couple of months, he's been busy moving and all.

I remeber almost everyone I see on this site, for some reason, but I'm going to mention Stolen Idol, because he CTE'd recently, helped me get started on rp, and was all around likeable.

Personally I much preferred talking to a muppet avatar than some of the creepier ones out there...Big Jim P, looking at you.

Cravan, Liberated New Ireland, Chevyrocks, and several others were my first 'friends' on this site, and helped me learn how to write and RP. I owe a lot to those guys. Even in RL, I credit them for teaching me how to write which benefited me enormously in college and grad school.

Hey yeah, the influence of some NSers - especially Jenrak - really affected the way I write today, even in my professional life.

That's pretty cool man. Glad to hear somebody else had the same positive experience.

Not at all. Muppet avatar is not adequate compensation for ridicilous and borderline insane views and constant need to shout them from soapboxes in purposefully obnoxious manner. There is a reason he's DOS you know. Jim however is a nice guy even if we disagree on some issues.

Huh. I never took Bluth serious. This pretty sums it up for me:

Nah, I enjoyed his antics. I may be a fairly serious poster myself, but I don't mind posters who make things interesting.
