I think even the most liked presidents and candidates get shit talked.

This is the usual reaction to Bryan Caplan's most well-known position: open borders. He's done a lot of empirical study to show how it would be incredibly beneficial to everyone but everyone hates him for it.

What people claim to be beneficial can be quite irrational.

Lots of people seem reflexively against the idea of open borders, even a lot of people on the left.

I'm mixed. I believe we have borders for a reason, but I'm pretty lax about immigration and who should be let into the country.

Honestly you should be able to join the country as long as you know the official (or most popular in the case of US) language of the country, has a good education level (middle or high school completed) and is willing to either study or work in such country.

The Guardian is a joke.

That was an opinion piece, not endorsed by The Guardian. Many of the opinion pieces are garbage, others are semi-decent.

I have to admit to the LDT that I am fairly apathetic these days to advancing liberty. It seems that no matter what we try, we cannot influence people to think rationally. And even when we consider using emotional arguments or memes, mythical threats such as immigrants or private corporations making money seem to motivate people far more than having the government have the ability to literally take your livelihood away, throw you in prison, or even kill you arbitrarily.

Perhaps I need to spend less time on facebook.

This is why I believe in change from within, and why I'm a Republican. The right and left have generations of straw men to throw at libertarians working from the bottom-up, but Ron Paul showed us the proper way is top-down.
