What do you guys think about a universal basic income?
Replacing most other forms of welfare and making sure the people who fall through the cracks can survive. It's a left-wing thing but I heard lots of libertarians support it.

I think it's a nice ideal in theory but an inflationary disaster if implemented.

Doesn't Alaska have a policy similar to basic income? Has that been the case there? Have any of the pilot programs demonstrated that to be the case?

Inflation can be controlled through monetary policy, and after an initial spike in demand where everybody goes spending I think people would be more responsible with it.

You mean by raising the interest rates and inflating the money even more? Because that's the only way you are going to control it through monetary policy. On the other hand, too low interest rates means we have excessive lending going on, also bad.

People don't tend to be responsible with money that's not their own.

Raising interest rates doesn't inflate money, the whole point is it lowers inflation rates. Inflation isn't the worst thing in the world anyway. The people who the money really makes a difference to are the ones who HAVE to be responsible with it.

This is by far the most viable ticket we could have possibly gotten, I am very happy despite the fundamental differences in thinking between myself and Johnson + Weld. I think we're going to see a great general election race, and massive growth of the party.

I agree! Johnson is already polling 10% Nationally against Hillary And Trump. I also think that the republican party is coming apart at the seams, and that will majorly help the Libertarian Party.

Mebbe. Although it's not helping it's economy.

The problem is with the examples listed there is they've only been implemented in a limited geographic range or for specific sects of people. I'm not totally opposed to the idea, but I am skeptical of large scale effects of the basic income being positive. I will have to wait until it's actually implemented in say, Switzerland.

So, now that the presidential candidate and vice candidate it's settled, now it's time to take on the big guns: That is, getting 15% in the polls to get on the debates. Of course that's hard without getting media attention, but since CNN, WSJ, and Fox have all covered the convention and are now covering the results, if we can keep the media blitz up I think we have a chance to pull it off. And of course, the FDC is a slimy organization and may reneg, but if the same establishment conservatives that hate trump also run the FDC, who knows?

I'd love for GayJay to carry some states. States he could perhaps steal could be his home state of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Hampshire, Alaska. This is a good overview. Other states to look out for are Wyoming, Washington, Idaho, and Indiana. Of course this would be pulling a Wallace type victory, and Ross Perot didn't carry any states despite getting 19%, so don't get too excited here. It's just fun speculation for now.

Again, I stress this is the best case scenario, not anything realistic, as it assumes invitation to the debates and possible pledged delegates jumping ship, or some last minute Republican action to prevent a Trump scenario. It would also bring it to the House. It's pretty cool tho.

Edit: A few things

-Texas is unstable and may go Red, although that would be a huge loss to the LP
-Washington may go yellow
-Oregon may go blue (in fact I think it might be more plausible the other way around)
-Iowa may go yellow
-North Dakota may go yellow, South Dakota may also be reverse. In fact, I should probably reverse both ND/SD and Washington/Oregon
-Mass may go blue, but since it's Weld's homestate I thought I'd include it.
