A bit sore eye, all of the symbols are too light (except the black part, 'course). Try darkening the $ sign to grey, will improve a lot.

So, this has come across my mind and I will pose the question: do you think Rand Paul is a Libertarian? If so, why?

He's a very, very moderate libertarian in practice. It's more accurate to say he's a strict constitutionalist.

I am too. As Davincia has put it, he's a constitutionalist and not a Libertarian. He may be the closest thing to one a Libertarian within government, but we can do better.

I like him in general, and I like a lot of what he stands for, and I refuse to be that purist who bashes all libertarians for not being libertarian enough. He is probably one of the closest people to a libertarian that we currently have in Congress (I think Justin Amash is closer), but he definitely has some Republican roots. In fact, I think he pretty much fits what the GOP tries to sell themselves as. Proponent of limited government, limited taxation, etc.

So all that to say, I like Rand Paul. He's one of the better guys in Congress right now. But I would classify him as a Republican with libertarian leanings, rather than an actual libertarian.

Give him a few years and he may reach his father's level of voluntaryism soon enough. He's the best man in the senate currently.

Only if you repeal the definition of Libertarian and replace it with the definition of an anti-abortion, anti-marijuana legalization, anti-gay marriage, pro-racial / political profiling, defense spending junkie.

Rand isn't against marijuana, last I checked, nor gay marriage. He's been critical of defense spending too as much as profiling.

As late as 2014, RP was still pandering to the Kentucky evangelical vote, telling them he supported the war on drugs, and blew some fairly homophobic dogwhistles in opposition to gay marriage. He has voted yes for every defense spending increase that he's been ever been offered to vote no upon. He has opined that people who merely listen to certain political speakers should be scrutinized. He's a reliable conservative, but libertarian? Uh, no.

And lest we forget, he's the one that added "and replace" to the effort to repeal Obamacare, muddying a clear strategy to rid us of a boondoggle welfare initiative completely to attempt to substitute it with an even worse boondoggle.
