Quite true. However, then there's the social misfits that even the other social misfits like Jesus don't want to sit near, due to matters of stench, lack of bowel control, bizarre appetite for insects, and molesting his dog.

John the Baptist had an appetite for insects, and lepers had similar problems, and Jesus hung with them.

Also, Jesus was a pretty popular guy. Still is, really.

I was taught that the Bible was INSPIRED by God, but written down by mere mortals, which means there can be faults within it, and also that just because the tortoise and the hare never actually had a race doesn't make the moral of the story invalid.

Also, I'm not sure how many sects or denominations of Christianity are literalists when it comes to the Bible, but I am Roman Catholic, and we are definitely NOT literalists.

I think he more got upset with people ripping off city-dwelling Jews and using people's faith to turn a profit, not unlike Martin Luther later with indulgences.

Also, while I don't know the whole Bible that well, I'm pretty familiar with the Gospels, and I'm fairly certain he never said "fuck you, you are going to hell" to anyone who wanted to follow him.

Really? I thought that it was God who decided that, not some annoying mortal troll. Clearly I got confused by the bit in the bible where it said god was merciful and would forgive anyone who truly repented. Obviously that part is wrong though, and I will burn in hell just because I don't believe it exists.

As to why people think it's a joke, the reason could be that while the discussion topic was written in perfect english all your posts haven't been. That kinda thing tends to make people suspicious. Then again, given that most evangelical christians seem t be a few brain cells short of an amoeba, it shouldn't surprise me too much.

And if Im going to be damned in hell for not believing a guy was the son of god but following the majority of his ethics then hell I would rather go to hell than stay in heaven with a persecuting god.

I view Jesus in the same manner I view Hitlers mother. She was a nice lady, but spawned something that caused hell and suffering for years to come. I.E. The Catholic Church.
