I almost wonder if it was making fun of Trig. So far as I recall, Trig is a boy. I almost saw it calling Bristol retarded more than mocking Trig for his disability. No, I don't think they went too far...but I also haven't seen the entire episode yet.

I find it funny that conservatives that rile against being "politically correct" suddenly think we can go too far (not you, Greed...but others I have spoken to)

Well, I guess I should have been more specific in my OP question.
I am not calling for banning or Boycotts or any of that silly nonsense.
I was more looking for was this episode in bad taste and demonstrated of poor form, even for family guy.

Yes! Of course they went too far!

They've been getting boring and predictable for a year or so, so Seth McFarlane decided to stir up a small bit of controversy to spice things up a bit. :p

To be fair to Seth, some of his material on that show is good, but it's... hidden.

Really? That show has made tons of jokes, I haven't heard her come out and say something about each instance or any for that matter. I'm not talking about this situation, others (DuhCow as in Dachau was something I could relate to personally). It's a cartoon show that is known for making fun of everything. Honestly. Palin wants to be big and she needs to realize this can come with it.

I understand where your coming from. But at the same time so is poking fun at people who are handicap. Or referring to Jeb Bush as the guy who eats puppies or jokes about Catholic priests molesting children. It can all be offensive, depending who you ask or what group is targeted. The question is are we going to handle it like William Donohue does, or just realize it's a crude, but hilarious show that mocks everyone and everything?

Jeb bush eating puppies is at the politician himself. If jeb had a mentally handicapped son, I would hesitate to target said child specifically. It seems unnecessarily cruel.
Generalizations about the priesthood and handicapped is one thing, targeting an individual whose level of comprehension might preclude realization that the joke is at their expense seems to be in very poor form.

Freedom of speech and expression should be sacrosanct. Somebody will always be offended by family guy regardless of the situation, this time it just happens to be down syndrome and palins daughter. Why the hell does it matter? People should grow a thick skin in todays modern world.

Besides, Palin has heard much worse, she a bloody politician, one who is hated by quite a few people as well. Was about time for somebody to take another shot at her.

That being said, family guy could never go overboard unless it went really really overboard, but that would be censored. Eating fetuses maybe?

It is cruel, and unnecessary but it is also seems to be routine for this show. They seem to like making sick ofcolor and derogatory humor to try to make political points but they would do this to anyone. This actually seems to be one of their less offensive things.

It is of course inappropriate but this show is all about inappropriate so what would you expect?

Family Guys is normally very funny for me.
It's a bit of a hit and miss show.

Though my cousins finds it as funny as baked beans.

This joke was in poor taste and didn't make me laugh.

Something about moving the target to her Child with down's syndrome just seems to be in rather poor taste.

Poor taste, sure, but, she really only has herself to blame for making her child a public issue, :?

Has she ever made her son with down's syndrome a public issue ?
The other ones I see certainly.
Didn't she pull him out over the Retard comment?

That's about the only time she cares about trig (It's trig right?)

A stage prop, to show how "Pro-life" she is, a "Proof I"m for special needs people", and a nice helping of "Help I'm being oppressed!"

The fact that the episode having downs in a regular school actually having a potential romance is a good thing.

Yeah I know we all hate Palin and think she is a nut.
Is it not a little past even a comedy show to reference her child with Down's syndrome?

...yes. Nothing major given the general level of nastiness FG pulls out, but definitely a bad joke.

edit: given that Palin was the first to publicize her child's Down's syndrome, though, I'd say she has no right to make a fuss about it now.

This.

I haven't seen the episode, but from the OP link it just looks like they put her into Family Guy without her permission. Considering that they do it all the time, I don't see what all the fuss is about. As Seperates said, it's not like they're actually targeting her DS.

Not the point, I think - more that she herself said that she considered abortion when she found out, but that she triumphed over it.

She made a big deal about not aborting her DS son.

She doesn't have a teenage DS daughter, does she?

Indeed, isn't the only way in which this is connected to the Palin story, at all, the fact that THEY made a joke in suggesting that Palin was the kid's mom?

Ah, then apologies to The Lone Alliance. It's a shame that Palin used her child's DS for a political point, and as I think you were touching on, it's almost counter-productive from a pro-life/disability point of view for her to suggest that she even considered abortion.
