BAM!

This is a very good interview.

I especially like:

[laughs] That I did not even know about until my mom told me, “You’re on Channel 4!” And when I watched on Channel 4, on “Extra,” and I saw Sarah Palin with her son Trig. I’m like, “I’m not Trig. This is my life.” I was making fun of Sarah Palin, but not her son.

Did they specifically tell you that the character you were going to play also had Down syndrome?
A.

Yeah, they told me I was playing Ellen, who was Miss Bossy. I didn’t want to be bossy, but since they want me to be bossy, I just had to be as the character. I had to be bossy, as part of my process. That’s the only way to transform the real me to an animated person. So I had to do what an actor does. I just wing it and have fun with it.

I wonder how Palin is going to deal with it. I can't really see her letting it go, but I'm not sure if she's actually going to go on the attack when her new target is a DS girl...

Seems like it would be political suicide, at least - not to mention making her a pretty shitty human being.

While a part of me would like to see her attack the actress for her comments, I don't think much would come of it.
To her base, she is infallable. It doesn't matter what she says or does. They will see it in a positive light and accuse the liberal media of unfair attacks on her.
It's the same with Rush, Glenn, Hannity, Bush, or any neo-con icon you think of.

How strange. I could have sworn I said that red hair was a "unique trait", not a disability. Oh, wait. That's because I did. Furthermore, I said nothing to insinuate that one should not try to find a cure for disabilities if possible so that is a ridiculous claim, as well. But I never said it's okay to laugh in a derogatory fashion.

No, to say they did is to say any form of art, regardless of how intelligent(or not), subtle(or not) or tactful it is should be censored when it hurts someone's feelings. Regardless of the way it was done, it was Seth McFarlane's creative outlet, and whether or not he is an ass he deserves his right to illustrate his feelings in any way imaginable, so long as he isn't infringing on anyone else's rights(and believe me, nobody has a right to "not be insulted by anyone at any time, in any place.")

You didn't call it a disability, true, but you seemed to be implying that red hair and DS were basically just irrelevant differences. The idea of not doing research into cures (some people actually did criticize Christopher Reeve for involving himself in spinal cord research on that very basis) is the logical conclusion to such reasoning. But never mind. It's bad enough to make fun of people with DS or their parents, and even worse to try to justify it with the screwball logic of political correctness.

Family Guy has made fun of everything so far, if she's not going to complain about the the McCain/Palin 08 button on a Nazi soldier in the back in time episode, then don't complain about this.

I dunno, if she was the opposition candidate in 2012 it would be a gauge of how many rational and sane people still vote. Which means if she wins the country deserves to go down in a smouldering heap.

Do you have a link to the actual clip that is a problem? I'm bias to think it was the typical sick ableist, and possibly sexist stereotyping and hate but I'd rather see it first so I know what I'm commenting on.

Funny thing is that Seth MacFarlane didn't write the line, it was a girl WITH Downs Syndrome playing the character. She thought it'd be a funny touch and added it. I still find it in poor taste, but I did laugh when Sarah Palin was OWNED by commenting about how Seth MacFarland was terrible for picking on downs syndrome, when it was someone afflicted by the disorder who wrote and spoke the line.

An interesting duality, eh?
