Christ, to reiterate, it's a term for a small portion applied to an entire continent. Do none of you read past the last five posts?

So is Asia (originally just the Levant). So is Italia (originally just the Southern bit). So is France (originally just the northernmost bits plus Belgium). So is Egypt (originally just the Nile Valley, and locally called Khem btw). So is India (which today stretches a bit more than just the Indus valley).
Also, most evidently I was posting in this thread a bit earlier than the "last five posts", so you guess where your argument about people not reading past the last five posts is going to go.

Makes about as much sense as english speakers making a big deal about latin american spanish speakers calling Americans "United Statesians". It makes no difference to me how africans spell the name of their continent in their own languages. Why should they care how people spell it in other languages? It's not like Africa is the only continent to be spelled multiple ways in different languages either.

In other words, let everyone have their own names for whatever. It's not terribly important.

Oh yeah, because "Afrika" is much better. It originated from what the Romans called the land south of the Mediterranean. So basically it was invented by European invaders centuries before English (and distinguishing C and K, which represented the same sound in Latin) was even a thing. This squibbling about modern orthography is insane and pointless. Educate yourself before spreading that shit.

Well, I live in Kansas, right next to Lenexa, withing the vicinity of Shawnee Mission, Apache, and Cherokee. A ton of things are named after Native American tribes in my area.
