Fun is a bit too strong of a word, in my opinion. Mindless fits better. General at least avoids that most of the time.

Eh, General avoids everything else reasonable too, for the most part. What is better (or worse?), mindless posting of things that are seen as just spam by many other users, or getting worked up about some debate as if it mattered in the long run so much you start flinging insults and attacks at the opponent?

Yeah, what is less important in life than winning an argument online? And winning seems to be all what many want to do, and even if not, many don't care about actually having a good discussion about some topic. All that happens in most political threads seems to be venting anyway, often ending in getting angry for no reason other than that there are people who disagree with you, either in the news article posted or in the thread, Believing that there's any point to that would be silly, and yet so many seem to do.

It is. A friend of mine, un-coincidentally named after the protagonist of said comic, got me into it.
