In Islam when giving Baya't (pledge of alligance) to an Emir or Caliph that salute is used.

Obviously it does not as it predates Nazism. But it many people associate it with Nazism. The actual history and the act are not the issue. The issue is the perception people have.

Another example was the 45th infantry division patch. Which originally was a swastika. It was to represent Native American heritage. But it was decided soldiers with Swasitka shoulder patches gave a bad image after the Nazis.
