Given the unfortunate implications due to the German government tainting the salute there is a reason the culture got rid of it.

I can honestly imagine most people who still do the pledge aren't going to be comfortable changing it.

Seriously, the mere existence of that pledge is bad enough. Let's not make it that much worse by adding that to it.

That is rather unfair Bellamy was a Christian Socialist not a fascist.

Hand over heart salute is fine for civilians, and lacks fascist association. So why bother changing it?

And from what I understand of him he was a chill guy, and ironically his version of the pledge was secular. It wasn't until the Cold War that "under God" was added. You know just to put one more brick up on the wall against Communism. Them being "Godless F*** heathens", if I can borrow a line from Lewis Black, being the logic of making our nation that much more overt about being (Protestant) Christian.

Right, Germany banned various Nazi things because nobody likes the Nazis, but the Bellamy salute is something American schoolchildren used to do while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Germany hardly banned that.

I doubt claiming you were doing a Bellamy would be a legal defense in Germany.
