It's as much theft as reading a newspaper on a newspaper stand. Or a book in a bookstore. If internet sites had never started the wave of obnoxious, screen-filling advertising, sometimes with sounds and pop-ups, then the ad-blockers would have never become so popular. In some cases, they even protect the security of the browser since they prevent hijacked ads with malicious content to load.

Security concerns are the primary reason I use ad blockers and plugins such as NoScript which can be a pain in the ass to build a white list for, but works well enough if you don't visit unfamiliar websites very often. The only alternative would be for me to surf the internet from a program such as Sandboxie but this on its own wouldn't reduce the inconvenience of certain ads nor reduce bandwidth like how I want.

If I don't need to load all of the crap that comes default with a web page and only allow through the main portions of content, it dramatically improves load times and puts marginally less strain on my hardware.

Can't imagine using Youtube as much with no adblocker, actually. Since I don't really watch those channels that would be dependent on them it's probably not even causing much harm, and there are still other ways of supporting them.

Until last week I would not watch YouTube on the phone as it eats into the datacap. My service provider just exempted YouTube from its datqcap, which is a violation of net neutraly, but I am OK with it as it saves me money.
