Damn. That embalmer knew his shit.

He did. It was a mix of several chemicals. Rosalia was embalmed in the 1920s, yet she looks alive. It's amazing.

tbh we should be/almost are/depending on who you ask already are at the point where we can successfully cryogenically freeze people without damage. all we're waiting for is the technology to successfully bring them back. i understand preservation is usually done for aesthetic rather than practical reasons, but still, as far i know there is a one true king of human preservation.

Is the embalming process always the same as mummification, or can they be different?

I think they're a tad different. Not everyone who's embalmed gets to remain preserved so well, for so long. I think what aided in Rosalia's preservation was the embalming mix and the weather in Palermo. The Capuchin mausoleum where her body is interred at is famous for the many mummies (among other oddities) it has.

I wouldn't do it unless they can make me have a brand new body afterwards.

This is all so interesting. I'm super into stuff like this, went to the natural history museum last week. My favorite parts are the ancient cultures and pioneer days stuff.

Embalming is the use of chemicals to prevent decomposition, mummification is the preservation of a corpse. So a bit different.

I think some of the best mummies come not from Egypt, but from the peat bogs of Northern Europe. Like the Tollund Man. And this preservation happened by complete accident.

There's one in the dam. But the best one is in Bentonville. We need to visit it when you move. It's an art museum, though.
