IIRC, the whole story of it being haunted started right after the guy who started the memorial washed up one day. He too drowned in the Xochimilco river.

those people had it very rough. mrs mermania early in her career worked with some folks from there, they were very much tramatised, and difficult to work with, it was very sad.
