Terror Attack in Ankara, Turkey

Postby Vistulange » Wed Feb 17, 2016 10:13 am

First, source: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-35599323

A large explosion at a military dormitory in the Turkish capital Ankara has left several people injured, reports say.
A Turkish police official quoted by the Reuters news agency said a vehicle exploded.
Photos on social media showed large plumes of smoke rising from the area.
Turkey has been hit by a serious of attacks recently, including a suicide bomber that killed 10 people in Istanbul last month.

From my own network, I can say that there are 11 dead and unknown numbers of wounded as of now. In addition, there are allegations that Al-Nusra was behind the attack. The attack took place very, very close to the Chief of Staff and the force commanders, which is not too far from the Grand National Assembly itself.

My view? Good fucking job, Erdoğan and his mafia AKP. They fed these Islamists ever since the Syrian Civil War started, and now, the very heart of Ankara is bombed. Repeatedly. These guys need to go. Now. I'd be content if they only fucked themselves up, but I am in no way interested in death because of Erdoğan and his lackeys' personal ambitions and greed.

EDIT: A ban on broadcasting has been ordered.

EDIT 2: The death toll has allegedly risen to 11 people.

wait for more information

do not make sweeping declarations about who is responsible

but be skeptical of information that only comes out a day or two after, or even worse, a few hours after, because it is almost surely wrong

adhere to these rules always, and you will be ready for any attack/shooting in any country

None of us are secure in Turkey. The place the bomb exploded is quite literally the heart of the entire country. All the military and the civilian government is in that area. When passing through, you literally lose the mobile signal due to jammers. If a terror attack can take place there, nowhere is safe, from Edirne to Şırnak.

My bet is "less than 12 hours". I am not one for conspiracy theories, but I would not put it past Erdoğan to do a black flag operation, especially when a very senior official within the MİT (National Intelligence Organization) was recorded saying "I'll send four missiles from Syria, no problem" in a leaked phone dialogue. With this, the AKP could declare martial law (entirely or just the Southeast) legally, giving the current de facto - and completely illegal - martial law in the Southeast legitimacy.

How terrible. I hope the perpetrators are captured and jailed.
You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

This is probably an Islamist group and not the PKK, due to the ban on broadcasting. If it were, we would be bombarded with how evil an organisation the PKK is and how "they must be eradicated for the betterment of the Turkish State".

OP, I hate Erdogan too, hes a disgrace. But, we need to tread carefully here. There isn't enough information to determine the responsibility behind the attacks. I imagine it was perpetrated by a group of radical Islamists, but again, there isn't enough information. Hell, it could've been a lone wolf, we'll see.

Who he blames isn't really relevant as long as it's not the PKK. He'll continue to fund ISIS, he'll continue to send weapons to them and he'll continue to keep them out of Turkey's terror watch list.

If he blamed the PKK, however...that would be another story.

Trust me, you don't hate him as much as 50% of this country does.

And no, there really isn't any reason to "tread carefully" here. The MİT is a capable intelligence organisation. There is zero chance that they could not have foreseen an attack right at the brain of Turkey. The parliament, the Ministry of the Interior, the military headquarters...literal heart and brain of Turkey, aside from Erdoğan's own palace.

Also, personal insight: This type of attack is not the PKK's modus operandi. They don't use trucks to bomb people, just like they don't use suicide bombers. Their lethal terror attacks are restricted to the Southeast and when in other places of the country, they usually Molotov buses or public buildings, or use sound bombs.

Erdogan does need to become "Erdo-gone", sure, but this seemingly isn't his fault.

Erdogan is like the Turkish version of Adolf Hitler and that his party supports a pan-Turkish terrorist organization called the Grey Wolves, who attacks Kurds, Armenians and communists. Erdogan needs to get a pole up his butt by a bunch of Greeks. Yeah, I feel bad for Kurds and Armenians who had to suffer from mistreatment by the neo-Nazi Turks.
