I am surprised this wasn't posted.

There is going to be an announcement about the detection of gravitational waves. A major part of the theory of gravity. Einstein was an alien! :p

One of the many reasons I fracken love science. Exciting times ahead!

I heard about this. Should be noted that they are only expected to be announced.

Take caution though, as I understand it, the lab/team/whatever where they are looking for this occasionally introduces false data into to machine, to see if anyone notices it's fake or not. There have been a couple of times where they were ready to publish before they were told that the data was faked (obviously they failed that test).

So wait until the announcement.

Meh. Theoretical physics does not do it for me. When they actually have some utility like tractor beams or artificial gravity or something I will be interested.

The real announcement is actually from a xenozoological aspect. These gravitational waves are the song and calls of the unimaginably vast Cetacea cael or Void Whale. The fact that we have been able to detect the vocalisations means that they are getting closer and therefore intend on feeding on the nutritious planets in this solar system.
